What Tim Clark dislikes about Rudding Park:
Ate there on 13th May, table of 4, service was average, menu was basic. Prawns not cleaned correctly, made 2 diners ill. Over priced and poor quality for an establishment that should really do better. Not recommend. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £100+ View all feedback.

We had afternoon tea at Clocktower to celebrate a birthday. We arrived slightly earlier than our booking but it wasn’t a problem! Our table was already perfectly set ready for our arrival but since it was a really nice day outside I asked if we could sit outside instead. I felt awful because they’d already set it out so nicely but with no hesitation they were happy to relay the table outside for us and we walked around the grounds for 5 mins while we waited. The scenery and surroundings are just beautiful and the staff were amazing, particular Cris. She was so professional, friendly and attentive! There was an extensive tea menu to choose from and coffee was also available. They even said we could choose iced coffee given the weather. Refills were complimentary. There’s also an option to add prosecco champagne for an extra charge. For the food they brought the sandwiches first and it was great as you could choose which you would like to try, great for my partner as he didn’t like a few of them so they didn’t go to waste! Cris even came back after to ask if we would like some more! The sweet aspect was lovely, macaroons, tarts, cakes, scones. I mentioned I don’t like carrot cake so they swapped it for an extra tart. Again, appreciated a lot that they helped me avoid waste and be satisfied! There was also a fruit slice available that Cris put in a takeaway box for us along with the leftovers we had to enjoy at home. All in all, such a beautiful afternoon! Would recommend if you are an afternoon tea lover.

Slow drinks and fast food. Had to wait 15 minutes for pre dinner drinks and then had to wait to be shown to our table which was like a works canteen. Then we were ignored for 20 minutes and had to ask a waiter to take out drinks and food order. Incredibly, the starters arrived within minutes even before the drinks we had ordered! We had to ask the food waiter to get our drinks. Within 5 minutes of finishing our starters the main courses arrived. We had to ask for a break before ordering any dessert. We had been served two courses in 20 minutes. This meal for two cost £172 and for those prices you expect better service and treatment. The whole experience was abysmal

Sunday lunch sadly was a big disappointment. 5 people in our party plus a baby, so not a huge gathering but the time it took to serve the meal was painful. No apologies given for delays and I had to asked for our main course to be served! Meal was poor, roast potatoes had obviously been under the heater and were dry tough and tastless, and when the carrots came they were only lukewarm! Not wanting to spoil our family occasion I didn't complain. However I did send feedback on their website immediately, however I am still waiting for an acknowledgement for that. Overpriced, poor value, and over rated. 2 stars for the overworked gentleman waiter. We have had far better and cheaper Sunday lunches in our local pubs in and around York, which is where we'll be heading to in future.

Was having the time of my life at rudding. A Room and Dine indulgent Xmas prezzy to each other. Amazing room, spa and experience at first. Drinks reassuringly expensive but fine in the context. Then made the mistake of eating in the clockhouse on Saturday evening. The main dining room stank of fish so moved to other room. We were Still upbeat at that point and smiling and enjoying ourslelves...then...Caesar salad to start made a mcdonalds salad look gormet. Then...the £105 tomahawk for two arrived carved up like dog food and cold. I demonstrated this to the waiter by putting my hand on the 'sizzling hot stone '. Dissapointed but we gave them constructive and reasonable feedback and left. The picture of tenderstem cold broccoli sums it up. Such a shame. So close yet so far. Was worth the money up until it wasn 't. I 'll be marching to the front desk shortly for further feedback giving and reparations. I 'll go back to using our usual treat spa place in Durham. Ribroom at ramside is a proper restaurant and know their onions. Might go over to Devonshire Arms for Sunday dinner to salvage. Had breakfast and dinner here, both good experiences, the staff are particularly wonderful. Food quite pricey and not the biggest portions but ok when it’s included in your hotel package. Clocktower feels much nicer when dining alone as it’s more formal and quiet Service: Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
