What Amedeo F doesn't like about Daniel Defoe:
This restaurant, once a charming pub known for its excellent food, has unfortunately lost its charm. The quality of the food has declined significantly, and the service is often described as unfriendly. It is now a place that most people choose to avoid. View all feedback.
Located just up from Clissold Park and the Town Hall, this pub is nestled among many others on the street. It has an old-fashioned corner pub charm and we were pleasantly surprised when we entered, having just come from a wet walk around Abney Park Cemetery. The friendly barman/server warmly greeted us, as did the crackling real fire. He advised us to hang our coats on the pegs above the radiator, which proved to be a smart move as they were dry by the time we left after an early dinner and three drinks. Despite the pub being fairly empty, the service was excellent, and it seems like they are really trying to make a success of the place. The food was top-notch, with two of us opting for the cod chips with minted pea puree and the other choosing the lasagne – all dishes were delicious and reasonably priced.
