Under the new management, this place really turned around. have been really enjoying the friendly atmosphere and love his music. sx
The Clarence, once a beloved pub, has undergone a transformation that has left many disappointed. The food quality has plummeted, and unfriendly service is often reported. However, for those who remember its former glory, The Clarence is now a welcome spot for middle-class families and trendy individuals. Situated near Clissold Park and the Town Hall, this charming old-fashioned corner pub offers excellent service, top-notch food, and a cozy atmosphere. Highly recommended for takeaways, lunches, dinners, and even wedding receptions. Despite challenges, The Clarence continues to impress with imaginative food, excellent service, and a welcoming ambiance.

Located just up from Clissold Park and the Town Hall, this pub is nestled among many others on the street. It has an old-fashioned corner pub charm and we were pleasantly surprised when we entered, having just come from a wet walk around Abney Park Cemetery. The friendly barman/server warmly greeted us, as did the crackling real fire. He advised us to hang our coats on the pegs above the radiator, which proved to be a smart move as they were dry by the time we left after an early dinner and three drinks. Despite the pub being fairly empty, the service was excellent, and it seems like they are really trying to make a success of the place. The food was top-notch, with two of us opting for the cod chips with minted pea puree and the other choosing the lasagne – all dishes were delicious and reasonably priced.
