Donovans - Glen Eira
Donovans
Description
Donovans is a beautiful restaurant located by the sea, with friendly and attentive staff providing excellent service. While the prices may be considered high, the atmosphere and location make up for it. The menu is described as basic and unimaginative by Melbourne standards, with some dishes being a letdown in terms of taste and presentation. However, the service is consistently praised, and the overall dining experience, especially with the beachfront view, is highly recommended. Items like the bomb Alaska and grilled swordfish are highlighted as standout dishes, with the staff being knowledgeable and accommodating. Despite some minor shortcomings in certain dishes, the overall consensus is that a visit to Donovans is well worth it for a special dining experience.

I 'm writing this as I had the most disappointing lunch at your restaurant on Sunday 27 March. Apart for waiting six minutes at the front for checking in, I can understand that with Covid check-ins etc. We were then taken to a lovely quiet spot...as requested in the restaurant corner, table number 52. That was the best part of our lunch. We waited 16 minutes until we were asked would you like some alcohol yes we replied . We ordered the organic Shiraz, another 15 minutes went by and I asked on two occasions could we please have our Shiraz. The reply was we are trying to find it. We were then told by your drinks Person that particular Shiraz was not available . We then ordered another bottle of Bishop Shiraz which came in an acceptable time of five minutes. Finally we had a drink to toast our 40th wedding anniversary. At 3pm we were starting to feel a little bit hungry so I asked our waiter for some bread. We were not offered. The Batard was the best part of our lunch. We decided we should order as there may be a delay on our meals arriving. I ordered Seafood linguini and my wife ordered risotto large main meal. These arrived in an acceptable time, the only problem was my seafood linguine was cold and felt like it had been sitting under hot lights for 15 minutes. This also lacked ingredients. For $55 I expected so much more. The meal was sent back and a nice hot dish of the same arrived 10 minutes later. This left my wife to eat her meal on her own. I must say I thought the kitchen got the order mixed up as the serve of risotto main was so small. A very poor experience

A great food experience Friendly staff huge wine selection Small servings for top prices but worth it
Went here with my family. We all got a slab of meat and the quality was top. We also loved the bread so we asked for more and more. There were a few famous actors dinning the same time as us.
It has been a long time since I last visited Donovan's, however the experience did not disappoint me! The seafood for what this place was famous for were fresh and the steak was not bad either. However, the flaming of Bombe Alaska was already done in the kitchen. I guess maybe it was due to the recent bushfire events and we totally respected it. We enjoyed the night and will definitely come back again!
