We like going to Atwater's every month or so. The ambience is classy, perfect for romantic dinner. It's right by the river so you can even sit outside by the riverfront. The food is always great, but our visit today was made extra welcoming by Trisha. She's an amazing host, very kind, considerate and ensured that we had a great time. What Jeremy Daly doesn't like about Atwater’s:
The river view was truly pleasant! The Prime Rib Steak Sandwich reminded me a lot of an Italian beef from Portillo's, and another member of my group had the tomato bisque, which was quite tasty. Overall, I would rate the food as a 2, the service as a 2, and the atmosphere as a 2. View all feedback.
We hate a wonderful evening that made meael so good for us!
David was an amazing host: knowledgeable, friendly, professional. we always want to sit in his face! eating is always brilliant. we tried the cookies this time and the heavy ones.
Small but very nice dining room. Service can sometimes be slow but can have leisurely conversation.
First, let me start by saying that the food was excellent. Everything was cooked to perfection. The only drawback to my experience was the long wait times at the table. Our server would disappear for long periods of time. I found myself looking around the restaurant to try and flag her down. What made it more difficult was we were seated with our backs toward the whole restaurant facing directly outside. It was difficult to turn around and look as the large backs to the chairs created an obstacle to look for our server. For the prices, I didnt expect to have to flag down our server and waiting several minutes in between drinks and taking our orders. We had appetizers, entres, and dessert. We were seated inside the restaurant, yet there were too many fruit flies flying around and landing all over our table. The restaurant was half empty at the time. Party of two and our tab was around $220 not including tip. Decor was nice, gave a 1900 Emglish them. May come back and see if my next experience is better.
My wife and I had been here several times before and the experience was exceptional. So we thought it would be a very nice place for our 40th anniversary dinner celebration. I called the day before and asked to speak to the manager. I told him we were coming in and would appreciate a nice table and some special attention. While he seemed to be either too busy or too indifferent to my request, he said they provide a (gratis) celebratory dessert. When we arrived, we did get a well situated table and the ambiance was quite elegant. The server only had 3 or 4 other tables to care for. While the server was not inattentive, he was slow to get to us. But there are three things that irked me. (1) My wife ordered beef but asked to swap potatoes for the rice server said 'sure, no problem '. She received the rice. When pointed out, the server brought out a side of potatoes. (2) We overheard that the table next to us received potatoes, not rice. Obviously, either the kitchen or the staff mixed up the orders. Either way, the server did not have presence of mind to get that right. Later, we overheard him offering to comp part of their meal for the mistake. No such offer was made to us. (3) Despite what the manager said to me about a celebratory dessert, no offer was made or dessert provided. I 'm not going to embarrass myself asking. Atwaters knew this was a special dinner for us, as I called and we mentioned it to the hostess on our way in. All that said, even the food was not up to the standard we have seen in the past. When I 'm spending more than $250 for dinner (for two), I expect better than average service and better than average attention to detail.
