Probably the nicest restaurant in Waldhaus hotel.

Sadly a disappointment, there has been a version of Epoca at the Grand Hotel for a number of years, however this latest re-incarnation misses the mark by a cons... read more Sadly a disappointment, there has been a version of Epoca at the Grand Hotel for a number of years, however this latest re-incarnation misses the mark by a considerable margin. Best described in my opinion as pretentious fine dining – and expensive pretentious fine dining at that, we had staff making basic mistakes that you would not expect in a 5* Hotel, let alone a restaurant in a 5* hotel where the restaurant appears to harbour Michelin star ambitions: rushing to put plates down, water spilled over me (again through rushing), very slow service....48 minutes from sitting down at our table to receiving our amuse bouche.....and the restaurant was not even particularly busy. Whilst the Wagyu beef was very well cooked, the accompany potato cake was disappointingly stodgy and unremarkable...we did not return during the remainder of our stay.

We were sat in a different dining room which was much bigger and less elegant compared to the glass smaller room in which we had eaten in before. The service was slow. My tuna starter only had one piece of tuna barely 2cm long by 1 cm thick. My main course, wagyu beef was delicious but my potatoes were cold in the middle and not warmed completely.

The starts and desser... read more We dined at the restaurant to celebrate a birthday. The setting is excellent. It is part of a splendid historic hotel with stunning views. The starts and desserts were innovative and excellent. The mains were a bit more variable with the chicken dish being slightly overwhelmed by the vegetable accompaniment. The wine selection was excellent and the service good. A good venue for a celebration meal.
