Description

The reviews for this restaurant are quite mixed. While some customers had a terrible experience with subpar food and service, others had a delightful time with excellent meals and welcoming staff. The charming 18th-century building with a cozy atmosphere and candlelit dining options seems to have impressed many patrons. The owner, Jack, has been praised for his charm and knowledge of wine. The diverse events hosted at the restaurant also seem to be a draw for customers. Overall, it appears that the quality of the dining experience at this establishment can vary greatly, but for those who have had a positive experience, it seems like a gem worth returning to.

We went there on new years day for dinner as it's was very good food when we went on our wedding anniversary. BUT we wasn't even sat at our table and we was told of 3 main meals that was not on the menu. 3 of us had pies 3 had burger on wood).we waited 1hr for the food all 3 pies looked like they had been cooking for the hr I called the waitress to point this out my pie had boiled dry, she offered to change it but I don't eat from drift wood or roof tiles, I felt let down as I had recommend 4 friends to join us here .my pretend pie was removed from the bill . A pie in a dish is a cheat ,not what I expected from classy established.

Lovely atmosphere. Cosy and dogs welcome. We had Sunday lunch twice but the chef doesn’t know how to cook baked potatoes. They were undercooked. Roasties are supposed to be crispy on the outside. The veg option was just shop bought cauliflower patties. Very disappointed. Price per person: £30–40

Nice pub with nice service until we went through for food. Starters had to be sent back twice only for the manager to come and tell us there was nothing wrong with them. Main courses came out cold at that point we gave up. Real shame has visited this place 10 years ago and had a great experience, would give this place a wide birth. Price per person: £50–60 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2

We had a large group booking here on a day one of the chefs had called in sick. Service was slow (2 hrs before mains were served-and not all the group had starters! the children's meals also took 2 hours to appear which meant that they were getting a bit ratty (age 2,5,7&10 . Some food was excessively salty commented by more than one member of the group. The pub itself was lovely and had a nice cosy atmosphere although the menu was on the more expensive side. We should really have been told a chef was off ill at the beginning of the booking but this was only shared at the end. If we had not been told this we would have only given 1 star as the service was appalling. Price per person: £30–40 Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4
