Was doing a bit of shopping in Exeter with my Gran, who is in her seventies. She goes to Cafe Zest at least twice a week and insisted on buying me lunch in her favourite cafe. She had the soup and bread and I had...a jacket potato with tuna mayo. Plus drinks. The service was very quick and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed my potato with its very generous portion of tuna mayo and a healthy side salad. After that we both... View all feedback.
What Christian White doesn't like about Cafe Zest:
You would think that chef in a department store cafe couldn't go wrong in a department store cafe, just having to heat things up and chuck some oven chips in. But I was wrong. I ordered quiche, chips and mixed vegetables. The quiche was undercooked;...the chips were undercooked (ie crunchy) and the vegetables were overcooked, World War Two style. The only thing they didn't mess up was the bottle of apple juice I took... View all feedback.
We decided to seek refuge from the rain and grab a quick bite to eat along with a cup of tea at this restaurant. My mom selected a sandwich from the menu that was actually out of stock, despite being advertised. The staff apologized and we ended up choosing something else. The customer service was excellent, so it's no surprise that this restaurant is always busy.
We sought refuge from the rain in this restaurant to take a break and recharge before doing some Christmas shopping. After exploring two empty floors in House of Fraser, we stumbled upon this cafe. It appeared to be a bit worn out and neglected, likely in its final days. My daughter ordered a sandwich and a drink, while I opted for a scone. Unfortunately, my scone was undercooked in the middle and the only available spreads were jam and blackcurrant marmalade. The sandwich was soggy and unappetizing. As we sat eating, a heated argument broke out between two customers over a chair, prompting another customer to intervene and request that they take their discussion elsewhere as it was not appropriate for the environment. My son, who was with us, was unsettled by the altercation. Overall, our experience at the restaurant was not pleasant.
My partner and I wanted to treat my grandparents to a beautiful coffee. the service we received was really under par, the priority of the customers behind us in the waiting queue to feel invisible. beyond that, the coffee was terrible. will not be back....other will be my grandparents.

So delicious and tangy I could have eaten another portion. Would thoroughly recommend this place.

The only thing they didn't mess up was the bottle of apple juice I took from the chill shelf. The meal wasn't cheap but it sure was nasty. I left most of it. Nobody asked me how it was. I didn't complain because frankly I didn't see any point if their quality control is such that they let food go out like that.
