While the service has been praised for its attentiveness, experiences vary regarding the food. Some diners have enjoyed the tasty, adventurous menu, particularly the Sunday set menu, while others found certain dishes, like the lamb, disappointing in quality. Despite a few inconsistencies, many appreciate the overall atmosphere, which lends itself well to intimate dining. With its discreet service and beautiful location, this restaurant holds potential, yet its quietness can sometimes detract from the overall experience.
This restaurant was located in a beautiful place off the beaten path. Unfortunately, when we visited on a Wednesday, we were the only diners, making the ambiance disappointing. However, the food was delicious and the staff's attention was impeccable. We will definitely be returning, hopefully on a busier night.
Enjoy Sunday dinner, good food. Very quiet, only 3 tables with guests when we were there, but only about 11 tables at all. Sunday has a set menu that I felt was very cheap. 3 courses were about £28 a head, but the food was excellant have opened pictures and it is fine food. Really enjoyed
I chose this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary but both my wife and I were left disappointed. The service was good although the waitress had a habit of referring to my wife as young lady which as she is about to celebrate her 60th was a bit annoying after the first time. The menu was adventurous and the starter was good but we both felt the main courses did not live up to expectation. Some of the ingredients looked interesting but for us did not work together. The portions were good but neither my wife nor I finished the plates due to a mix of quantity and quality. The wine at £36/bottle was also nothing special. It was our first visit and would have been a good option for larger family events in the future but I'm sorry to say we won't be going back.
This was a new find for us. Tucked away in Epsom the restaurant is in the hotel. The ambiance is warm , welcoming and quiet! The food is very tasty, selection is basically English. The service is discreet but attentive. The only drawback was that it was very quiet, more people would have added to the ambiance (althought it did suit us very well that evening). Perhaps it is a well kept secret?
I work in the hotel and restaurant business and I love this restaurant! It is my second time going and they never disappoint. The food is of first class quality and my venison was cooked perfectly. The service is friendly, kind and laid back. We were very well looked after from beginning to end. I 'm sure this place isn 't for everyone, the restaurant only has 7 or 8 tables and the decor of the lobby reminds me of my grandmothers house but that just adds to the charm and homeliness of Chalk Lane. No doubt the best place in Surrey for a quiet romantic dinner!
