Cracker Barrel - Effingham
Cracker Barrel
Description
Nestled in a country-store-lined setting, this family-friendly restaurant serves warm, homestyle classics and popular desserts amid a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Staff are frequently praised for attentive, friendly service, though kitchen delays and inconsistent food quality — dry chicken, uneven biscuits, and occasional cool or sloppy takeout — surface in some visits. Ideal for families, travelers and breakfast crowds, it remains a dependable casual stop for comfort food and shopping the attached country store despite variable pacing and occasional order mishaps.

Great first experience at Cracker Barrel. Got seated quickly with a short wait, great waitress with lots of knowledge about the food, and ended with a nice shopping trip in the country store.
Always a great meal. This visit was exceptional because they had the greeter at the entrance rather than having to fight your way back. There was quite a bit of management monitoring the operation and clearly things were running smoothly. This cracker barrel is much better than the average.
We had an excellent experience at this Cracker Barrel restaurant. Food was really good, hot and served in a timely fashion. Waitress, Val, was great, very friendly and accurate. You could tell they were short on help, but they did a great job keeping up. There was a wait but nothing unreasonable.
I had the home style chicken for lunch today. It was at noon. Not busy at all. 2 boneless chicken breasts, potatoes and gravy and broccoli and biscuits. The chicken breasts were very, very dry and difficult to eat. Seemed to have been sitting under a heat lamp or something for way too long. I had the white gravy on my mashed potatoes and there was only a tiny bit of gravy. At first I wasn't sure if there was any gravy at all. The biscuits were hard and dry. Broccoli was the only thing that was good. My partner had the pot roast and he enjoyed it but he said that the cornbread was not edible. He usually eats several pieces of cornbread and he didn't even finish the 1 piece he tried. Very disappointing for the price we paid. Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
It took over 30 minutes to get our food. It was not busy. The bacon wasn't done and the food was cold. Never seen the waitress except for once and we were ready to go. This is the second time in past month and a half it has been so slow with the food, not busy and the food is cold. I won't go back to this cracker barrel as both times it has not been good. Only see the waitress once and can't get refills. As much money as it costs to go out and especially a sit down restaurant, you should see your waitress more than the one time to get your order and when you are ready to go.
