I can't recommend this place enough that they have to go!

We always eat here when we are in edinburgh. it is a hidden gem and I always recommend it to friends. the service is great and the atmosphere in the restaurant... read more We always eat here when we are in edinburgh. it is a hidden gem and I always recommend it to friends. the service is great and the atmosphere in the restaurant is fantastic, there is a great energy with a good mix of people. the steak is a highlight, I ordered a rare filet and it was perfectly cooked. the obstgarten bramble cocktail is always a personal favorite, but this time I decided to try some other too. they offer a cocktail with beeen pollen and heather and that is a must try! I can't remember the name of the man who served us last time, I think he said he was a South African? but he was really fantastic and attentive and chatting, despite how busy it was.

This basement restaurant is quite cramped, but that probably fits the atmosphere. the waiting employees are also very friendly and generally do a good work keeping so many tables and accusations in their heads. the mentioned haggis is a small affair, but it was full of taste and restored mine believe in this court. it can be delicious! we had to start the ink fish too, but they cooked it graciously without the cracking because of my sonny milk intolerance. it was still good quality, thick and firm, and I can only imagine how it would be ripped. we also had the duck, lam, cod...read more

Hostess said no pr... read more Bartender and hostess were nasty. I walked in at 5:25 and asked if I had a drink at the bar, could I get a dinner table for 1 at around 5:45? Hostess said no problem. At 5:45 I asked the bartender, who heard my conversation with the hostess, if my table was ready? She said it would be 6:30. I told her no my table is supposed to be ready. She said I failed to make a reservation. Then I found the hostess and asked her if my table was available. She said it would be around 6. At 6:10 There was never the thought of I’m sorry. I again inquired about my table to the hostess and she said it would be 6:30. I was the only person at the bar and not many people in the restaurant. I asked if I could order and eat my dinner at the bar. I was told I could only order from the limited bar menu. At 6:20 I was seated at a table that was never occupied. All of this time my waitress, the bartenders, and the hostess were 60% socializing together at the bar. These folks would not know what to do if really busy. The food was good but not outstanding and the portions very small especially for the prices. I gave my waitress a nice cash tip and asked her not to share with the hostess or the bartender.

The cocktails were superb and the food was excellent. I had the scallops to start and the haggis neeps and tatties for main which was so tasty. All the staff were excellent and clearly well trained. Barman did great cocktails too. Would def come back again.

We never had starters as we get full quick. But they looked amazing. The mains where amazing coukd not fault (maybe did not need onion rings side dish as filling). All the dishes coming out looked amazing. We shared a dessert of Bruder which was lovely (maybe need setting a bit more). The staff where friendly, helpful amd amazing.
