Reviews - Ignite
Reviews summary
Ignite has built a reputation on reliably excellent food and warm, attentive front‑of‑house service. Diners praise the restaurant’s generous portions, tender meats and wide-ranging curry menu — from punchy vindaloos to delicate garlic‑chilli dishes — and many customers report returning again and again. The eat‑in experience is described as friendly and welcoming, and takeaway collections are well regarded for speed and personal service. Recurring frustrations center on third‑party delivery: where the kitchen delivers consistently strong flavours, courier timing and manners are uneven, sometimes leaving orders late or cool. Despite delivery hiccups, loyal customers keep coming back for the food and the atmosphere.

Came here last night for a meal. Got the poppadoms and 3 tray. The onions were very bland the mixed pickle was horrible. Took hubby's order never asked for mine had to tell him. I got chicken tikka masala. Worse I've ever had with a huge tomato in it. Rice was definitely not pilau. Hubby's told his curry as hot. Once again it wasn't as for the chicken peas they were rank rotten. Definitely not anywhere near a 4.5 star. Had better out a takeaway. They even tried to take a man's plate away while he was still eating it. Felt as if they are in a rush to get you out. Wasn't even busy. Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2
I've eaten in many curry houses all over and the food here was simply outstanding. The Kahari lamb and Jaipuri lamb was lean, tender and plentiful. Just spicy enough and full of flavour. Two others in the party were equally delighted. Lemon and pilau rice, mushroom and cauliflower bhajees and a garlic naan rounded of the meal. Also fantastic service from the waiting staff, thank you Price per person: £30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Vegetarian offerings: Vegetarian menu or section
Ordered from here a few times now, best Indian restaurant I've had takeout from in Edinburgh by a long shot! Very good quality meat, rich flavourful sauces and reasonably priced for the large portion sizes. 10/10 will continue ordering from there. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Very poor experience from a local restaurant which online ratings led us to believe would be good. A couple of weeks ago, after work, my partner and I decided to give a new Bengali/Indian restaurant a try during the middle of the week. We booked in advance to confirm use of a common offer available on Tastecard. Between two, we ordering a drink, a side, a large curry and two naans but the staff insisted we must order more to use it. They were rude and made us feel uncomfortable in an empty restaurant. We considered staying but didn’t want to order too much food so paid for a drink and left without ever trying it. Although living close by, we will not be returning to this restaurant. There are so many great places to eat only a short walk up Dalry Road or towards Lothian Road. There is no reason to treat anyone how they did us. I wonder whether this was because they expect customers to order alcohol and non-veg food for a few extra pennies?! A shame not to have tried out this local restaurant but we would have felt worse if we stayed.
We chanced upon this restaurant on an unplanned evening, being an Indian as well as Bengali myself I was quite excited about the prospective dinner. Staff was extremely friendly and welcomed us with a smile, got us a table even though it was a busy Friday night. We orderd chciken dhansak, egg fried rice and aloo bhaji. Here’s my take on the food. The masala in the curries were undercooked and heavily tomato based (uncooked tomato which is far from how Indian or Bengali curries are in general. The authentic dhansak curry is extremely aromatic with a variety of masala along with different kinds of lentils, and when fully cooked the lentils and the vegetables are completely mixed, none of which happened here. Similarly with aloo bhaiji, first of all Aloo Bhaja in Bengali means fried potato(either slices or small sizes , secondly even if this Aloo Sabji, the size of the potato (too large! and the uncooked tomato (again too large pieces! just threw me off completely. The chef should look into the cooking as this is far from authentic curries (to the other people who mentioned they have had a LOT OF CURRIES and this is the best curry guess they never had a good Indian or Bengali curry . I want to reiterate in the fact that the staff was extremely courteous, welcoming and friendly, so 5 stars to the service. To the management and chef,I hope you do better with the food and ensure you are serving people authentic food since you are representing two extremely rich cusines , all Bangladeshi people I know happen to be amazing cooks, I am sure you can do better. All the best!
A late night dinner at this restaurant that we had visited some years previously Despite the time we were accommodated As ever food was good, service very friendly and we left stuffed and happy
Visited as part of a stag weekend. Fantastic welcome and the food was amazing. If you are in Edinburgh, I would definitely recommend. The staff were brilliant and the food was so tasty. Thank you

The restaurant was unexpectedly quiet during lunchtime, with only one other table occupied. The service was attentive, and the food was delicious.
My previous experience at Ignite was wonderful, so I decided to go back after a rugby match at Murrayfield. The staff greeted us warmly and were very attentive throughout our meal. The food was just as delicious as I remembered from before. Ignite offers a diverse menu with traditional Indian dishes as well as some unique specialties that are worth trying. The seating was comfortable and the atmosphere was relaxed. Ignite is definitely one of my favorite restaurants.

I'm really puzzled by the only other review of Ignite as I have been here on many occasions and I think it's the best Indian restaurant I've been to. The atmosphere is more upmarket than your usual curryhouse, the staff are very friendly, the food is fabulous (I particularly love the chilli naan and wish more places would make it). I would recommend Ignite to everyone!
The tastiest Indian curries I've tasted in Edinburgh. What I like about their cooking is that it is not heavy and oily like some other Indian meals I've tried.
Our first time here, recommended by a local. Good and interesting menu very flavorful curries. Nice ambience and friendly. Staff were very patient working with our large Christmas group. Recommended.
Hot off a long, long day of travel and craving Indian food, my husband and I decided on the first place we saw coming out of Haymarket station. Walking in, we were greeted by an extremely friendly staff and full menu exciting! Our food was delivered quickly and was absolutely delicious with the perfect amount of spice. My husband had the chicken madras, I had the chicken jalfrezi and we split a side of rice and garlic naan the perfect amount for two individuals who hadn't eaten all day! As good as the food was, we were just as impressed with the service and I will forever be grateful to our kind waiter who sprinted after us with my purse and scarf in hand. : If we ever find ourselves in Edinburgh again, this will be on our revisit list for sure!
Bring a torch, this place is like being in your shed. I wish they would ignite some candles. Saying that though, the food was great. Rice was a little too soggy but everything else was cooked perfectly. The staff were keen, they got our food out in less than 5 minutes from ordering. They loose points because the toilets were in a bit of a state, shame really.

Great ambiance, great food and service. The menu is extensive and being four of us we were able to experience eight different dishes, all of them excellent. Very reasonable prices.
Although we hadn't visited this restaurant in a while (since they no longer serve lunch), we were warmly greeted by Imran and his team. The table was immaculately set, the service was professional and friendly, and the food was delicious as always. The Jahlfrieze king prawns were cooked perfectly, and my partner's chicken khani was also excellent. The nan bread was unique, and the pilau rice was tasty, but the portion size was a bit small. The lunch deals offered exceptional value, but we did find the dinner prices to be a bit high. However, you do get what you pay for!
Prawn puree was amazing to start with, Chicken Jalfrezi was also delicious. Lovely welcoming staff and very friendly vibes. Special Fried Rice and Garlic Nan completed the evening meal. Would highly recommend in the Haymarket area and definitely will be back.
Great food, had the pompadoms and a nice and spicy jaipuri chicken, great customer service as well! All of my friends also enjoyed theirs food, and drank plenty of cobra. Very nice!!!
The staff at the restaurant was incredibly rude to my family and me. When we tried to order a small meal, he insisted that we order a larger meal instead, citing the restaurant's expenses on cutlery and maintenance as the reason. He repeatedly emphasized that we needed to spend more money and couldn't order a small portion, claiming that the restaurant was not like other smaller establishments. His tone and words were extremely disrespectful and unacceptable. We were taken aback by his behavior and had a very negative experience. I would not recommend this place.

They met two business colleagues after work and had a pleasant meal. Food was very good as service. We did not feel pressure on the haste that made for a very pleasant evening.
Approached by staff at 8.15 and told we told we had to be out by 8.30. No indication of this on booking. Offered a drink on the house but where were we to drink it? Spoiled what had, till then, been a very good experience.
Good food, good service although as we were the first in the restaurant soon after it opened at 5.30pm it might have been better had the waiting staff not spoken to each other so loudly!
