Description

The Edgewater Grill at the Doubletree Hotel in Durango offers a mix of experiences, according to recent reviews. While some diners praised the fantastic meal, great service, and amazing views, others had disappointing encounters. Issues such as limited menus, lack of reservations, poor service, and confusing premises were highlighted by dissatisfied customers. However, those who enjoyed their visit raved about the delicious fish and chips, exceptional avocado rellenos, and the attentive 25-year server. Overall, the restaurant seems to have potential for a great dining experience but may need to address consistency in service and communication with guests.

We did not dine in this restaurant. We were told that they do not take reservations from OpenTable. It is nothing more than a restaurant in a hotel, completely open to lobby. Would not recommend.

For an amazing view of the Animas River, you must dine at this restaurant. Although the wait staff seemed to be confused as to whether the dining room was open or not, once it was all straightened out, the view from the small dining room patio was delightful. I would definitely go there again.

The Edgewater Grill was closed to outside bookings when we got there. There was a tour group using the restaurant. They sent us downstairs to the Beer Garden at the Doubletree Hotel. The menu was limited and the food disappointing. When we brought our concerns to the front desk at the Doubletree Hilton in Durango, they were not helpful. Told us the restaurant, which was on their premises, was not part of the Doubletree. Would never book this restaurant or hotel again.

On our first visit, I opted for the smoothie bowl, which was described as a strawberry smoothie blended with yogurt. I expected it to have the consistency of a thick smoothie, but it turned out to be more like soup—way too watery to be enjoyable as a smoothie. I also tried the French toast, which was delicious and highly recommended. The manager noticed that I wasn't eating my smoothie bowl and kindly came over to check if everything was alright. I explained that it didn't meet my expectations, but I intended to pay for it since I'd eaten some. He graciously offered to take it off our bill and encouraged me to let them know if I wanted something else. I appreciated his understanding and kindness. The young server also came by to apologize, but I reassured her that it wasn't her fault at all. On both mornings, my husband ordered eggs, bacon, and either toast or a fruit bowl. He found the eggs and bacon to be good but was disappointed that the fruit bowl contained only pineapple and cantaloupe. On our second visit, I ordered the Continental breakfast, which included yogurt, a muffin, and a fruit bowl. The banana nut muffin was warm and delicious, but the yogurt was a small kids' Yoplait strawberry banana variety that was too sugary for me, as I’m pre-diabetic. Once again, the fruit bowl was just pineapple and cantaloupe. This is a nice restaurant with prices to match (to be fair, the Continental breakfast is only $11), but the healthy breakfast options seemed rather inexpensive and lacking. As an establishment of this caliber, they could invest in plain Greek yogurt with fresh berries to create a lovely parfait. Fresh mixed berries and a proper-sized Greek yogurt would make the Continental breakfast much more appealing. The atmosphere is pleasant, though it feels somewhat typical for a hotel restaurant. A touch of local charm in the decor would enhance the experience significantly.
