We ate in the restaurant which is part of the Mercure Hotel while we were staying there. The food was of good quality and well cooked but the menu is limited to around 5 choices with an additional "Dish of the Day". We ate on two occasions but due to the limited choices would not be able to do more as the main menu remains the same.We were lucky that the weather when we were there was beautiful and we were able to eat on the outside terrace on both nights which overlooks the river and the port, all in all a very nice setting. We found all the staff attentive and friendly.
In the U.S., I make it a point not to eat in a hotel restaurant unless the city is under siege, the weather is stormy or there is some reason to believe the restaurant is independently run and has a track record of distinction. In France, the odds of a decent meal are much higher, particularly in independent hotels. As to chain hotels-well one can hope for the best-the bigger the hotel, the more likely that the meal will be satisfactory. With a friendly host and a limited menu, we were somewhat resigned to our fate. Basic food, adequately prepared, nothing to write home about, decent sustenance. A Pave' of Beef was good quality meat, served with a side of potatoes. Somewhat bland for France. Frankly, the dessert Sabayon was quite good. If the weather were better, and you could sit out on the riverside patio, one might be even more forgiving.Candidly, we didn't know the area and were tired. A short walk across a narrow bridge nearby, and there are half a dozen other options, independent businesses vying for your trade. Leave this place to the Kiwanis and Rotary.
We arrived late without reservation in the hotel and have requested a list with restaurant near. the rain outside let us choose the restaurant in the ground floor. the menu looked at attractive when it shows only appetizers, main and gloomy performances. I went for Foie-Gras instead of noir. with cauliflower and a really fine sauce. my wife went for a bun with little kartoffels. I can tell them sincerely that I was very impressed by the quality of the ingredients and cooking. I am very pleased to give to the chef stare who prepared a really nice dinner. the service of his wife was both very professional and quite relaxed. well done
