What User doesn't like about Valiant Trooper:
I’ve attended this pub before when walking in the area so thought I’d return for a birthday lunch with friends. To keep in line with government COVID-19 guidelines I enquired over the phone about a table outside and asked if it had cover (the weather forecast was for showers). I was met by an incredibly patronising and rude man on the phone, who dismissed what I was saying and made me feel embarrassed to have asked.... View all feedback.

However, my experience with the food was a bit disappointing. The menu was confusing as it advertised BBQ but there wasn't much meat options available. The food was presented beautifully but was too fancy for pub fare. I would recommend this place for drinks and snacks, like crisps, but not for a full meal. To improve, I suggest adding simpler options like chips or wedges. Overall, a nice spot for drinks, but the food may not be for everyone.
Just reopened and so far so good!! The garden looked stunning and the service was attentive. They were not serving food when we got there but it looks as if the are starting slowly!!
While biking by, I decided to stop by this restaurant tucked away in the back. I discovered a tranquil oasis with a lovely garden and was served a pint by the extremely polite and friendly staff. The enticing smell coming from the garden kitchen made my mouth water, although I wasn't able to try the food this time. I will definitely be returning soon to taste their dishes. Overall, it was a delightful experience and I highly recommend it.
Newly opened, and the best is yet to come. This charming old pub has been reinvented by Rupert and Helen with a very high standard renovation. Currently only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for drinks and a very limited menu but with grand plans for a tea room, restaurant and farm shop. Watch this space…
I walked down to Aldbury from the Ashridge Monument for an early evening drink and was very disappointed with what used to be a charming pub. There was no cooked food available, and the man serving drinks in the garden was scruffy and unfriendly. Despite always preferring this small country pub to the other one in the village, I doubt I will be returning anytime soon. I fear that this pub may not survive much longer.
