Brog Maker - Cork
Brog Maker
Description
Mak restaurant offers a fine dining experience with delicious food, reasonable prices, and a focus on presentation. The yuk sung and scallops are highlights, while the sweet and sour chicken comes highly recommended. However, issues in the service department were noted, with lack of management presence, untrained staff, and incorrect orders. The restaurant does have a separate Coeliac menu with great options for those with dietary restrictions, and the staff is friendly and attentive to all diners. Overall, Mak D6 offers a positive dining experience that may warrant a return visit.

Feedback
Delicious food and wonderful staff—honestly, I need to find stronger words to describe it. The food is truly exceptional, and the staff are friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaged. I missed chatting with the owner this time, but he’s always eager to hear your feedback. As an accomplished home cook, I often find it hard to discover restaurants that match or surpass the quality of my own cooking, but Mak consistently exceeds my expectations. It’s a real pleasure to dine here. Keep up the excellent work— in my opinion, this is one of the best restaurants in Ireland, at least among those I’ve visited.
The staff at Brog Maker were incredibly friendly and attentive from start to finish. I enjoyed the stir-fried duck with a spicy plum sauce, paired with egg fried rice, which was both delicious and served in a generous portion. For dessert, I shared a brownie with my friend, and it was absolutely incredible—the best brownie I've ever had. I will definitely be returning!
Visited Brog Maker again last night for the first time since lockdown ended. The food was outstanding, with starters that were absolutely unforgettable. Every dish was bursting with flavor, leaving us satisfied and happy. The staff were exceptional too—friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and perfectly balanced in being helpful without being intrusive. We’ll definitely be returning. Thanks for a wonderful evening!
Although I was initially hesitant to visit Brog Maker due to some negative reviews, I'm glad we decided to dine there. The service was excellent, the chili beef was flavorful and spicy, and the menu offered a great variety of both gluten-free and regular options. The cocktails were fantastic, with the espresso martinis being a standout favorite!
I would rate Brog Maker 5 stars if not for a few issues. The food was excellent, especially the sweet and sour chicken and chicken wings – highly recommended. Our dishes arrived quickly, but we were initially seated at a half-circle table near the entrance. When we asked to move for more privacy, no one followed up to confirm the change. Service was adequate overall, though there was no check-in after our food arrived and a long wait of about 15 minutes before our mains were cleared. Sitting by the entrance in a secluded circular booth felt uncomfortable, as if we were on display while people waited to be seated. The frequent door openings caused our food to cool down, and the dim lighting combined with people standing nearby made it hard to see our meals clearly. Although the waiter offered a discount and the manager offered wine (which we declined since we don’t drink), the bill wasn’t reduced. When I paid cash, the manager took my change—around €4—without asking and put it in the tip jar. Despite trying to get their attention afterward, I couldn’t retrieve it. While a small amount, the principle was disappointing after sharing our concerns. Brog Maker offers a good menu, including excellent options for coeliac diners, but the overall dining experience left something to be desired.
