Let’s start with the positives. The staff at Bonwit is incredible. They truly went above and beyond for my event. I reserved the beautiful Anastasia room for 40 guests, and it was the ideal venue for the baby shower. The space is both elegant and stunning, and I was able to decorate it to my taste. The manager was exceptionally kind and allowed me to decorate the day before, giving me as much time as I needed. Whenever I had a concern, the staff was always available and addressed it promptly. They were organized and professional throughout the event. They even permitted a live harpist to perform at the shower, which added a lovely touch. I was really impressed with their service and would have given them a solid five stars—if only the food had met my expectations. Considering the price I paid, I anticipated exceptional food, but I was unfortunately disappointed. The first course—salad and bread—was good, and the second course, penne alla vodka, was also enjoyable. However, the main course of chicken lacked flavor and was quite disappointing. My boyfriend ordered the eggplant and didn’t like it at all. With five options to choose from for the main course, one of my brothers chose the veal and found it unimpressive as well. My family was candid and said the food was just mediocre. The cannoli cream cake and coffee were merely okay. Overall, I had a wonderful time with my family and friends, but perhaps brunch would have been a better choice for the event. I would rate this place 3.5 stars. For me to give a restaurant five stars, everything—from the food and service to the ambiance—needs to be top-notch, and unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to that standard.
I personally enjoyed the scrambled eggs, bacon, made-to-order omelette, Caesar salad, lox, and fruit; everything was delicious! However, there were a few items I didn’t care for, including the poached salmon, crusted salmon, and potatoes. The salmon simply didn’t taste right to me, and the potatoes were served cold, which was surprising since we arrived right when they opened. Additionally, I wasn’t a fan of the baked clams, as I prefer them whole rather than chopped. On the positive side, the service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and efficient in clearing our dirty dishes. One issue that my group noticed was that the food stations were located directly in the dining area where people were seated, causing a bit of congestion as we waited in line for food right in front of diners’ tables. Overall, everyone in my group enjoyed their brunch. After factoring in tax and tip, the total came to about $45 per person.
I came here for Sunday brunch ... I think 2 years ago) I loved it I cannot wait to go back !! Everything was delicious there is such a big variety of food to choose from ... eggs, breads, eggplant, pasta, seafood, cheeses... you're gonna need more than one plate !!! Only complaint ... They're under staff since it gets so busy they're all over the place ... but I'm the type of costumer that I don't want to be bothered while I'm eating so it's ok !! You're offered a Mimosa or Bloody Mary I think) but only one! Not unlimited, I wish! It should be ... ok, second complaint we want unlimited!! Overall it's worth the go!
The prime rib and salmon were cooked to perfection. The bread and Greek salad, as always, were delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant!
Greetings to All My Yelp Family Friends! The history of the Bonwit Inn, is fascinating It was formally the toll booth on the Vanderbilt Parkway.(check out the address #1) incidentally Vanderbilt Pky used to be a race car track. Grandpa told me how he used to bet on the car races here. Continuing the family tradition, I went here as a child when this was a one-story little restaurant painted white it was called Hymies. You can still enter through the back door just like it was in the old days. Wow My family friends have been coming here for 50 years. The Bonwit has been a mainstay in Fine Dining for the Commack area forever it 's still were everyone comes for a good homestyle meal. So, I couldn 't think of a better place to bring my mom for Thanksgiving. She sees her old friends and knows the place so well and feels so comfortable here at her home away from home. The bonwit is richly decorated in old style Rich Wood treatments. And then more wood on wood treatments. Together with the mirrors, leather seating and the stone fireplaces, it 's like you 're dining at the Vanderbilt Estate. The Bonwit Inn is usually our favorite place for Sunday brunch buffet. Today is Thanksgiving I 'm happy to report, the Bonwit Inn was an excellent choice. The Thanksgiving menu today was so inviting. Included selections were, short ribs, salmon, lobster tail seafood platter and of course the Star of the day, The Delicious ROAST Turkey Dinner . It 's a no-brainer mom gets the home style roast turkey dinner with all the fixings. Which included candied sweet potatoes, sausage stuffing mashed potatoes, and string beans. Wife and I had the seafood platters with lobster tails, crab cakes scallops, filet of fish and jumbo shrimp. The food was all prepared very well the Tails done perfectly. The food was presented to the table hot, delicious and with style. The roast turkey was rich and full of flavor with thick cut pieces of light and dark meat. I couldn 't help but steal a few pieces off of Mom 's plate. We all wanted to make the occasion really special, so I got a bottle of the Moet Chandon champagne. It was served with great ceremony in an ice bucket that stood next to the table. I am so ready for this! The bubbly popped with bang, and was cold, sparkling and crisp. Fizzy and delicious, It tasted so good It paired so very well with our holiday meals. We toasted again and again. Mom was so funny, she would down the entire class of champagne in one Bottoms Up gulp like it was a shot! Woah, hold on there mom. Mom had 5 glasses. You GO mom! Dessert was delicious, included strong coffee, with hot apple tarts topped with vanilla ice cream, pumpkin pie and whipped cream and the last glass of champagne. Well we 're All done! I was so jealous that Mom could just wheel out in her chair.. she 's like Evel Knievel in the thing she must have oiled the wheels. I thought I could roll myself out also, I was so full. I want to give a special shout-out to the most incredible staff at the Bonwit Inn. I called to make a last minute reservation, Thanksgiving morning, no problem. Everyone here was just so very accommodating to my mom and my family. Better service I have not had a Five star joint. So guess what? 5 Stars for you! Bonwit Inn, and for making my entire family welcome for so many years. Thanks for maintaining such excellent dining and Hospitality standards. It was great having such a wonderful place in my neighborhood where I grew up. We will all see you again on Christmas Eve. JIM D.
