Service was slower than we would have liked with the kids but the issue I had was even though I mentioned that we were celebrating both on open table when making the reservation and to the server not much felt special. My wife remarked at the end of the meal that she had only ordered one drink simply because the server didn't check back on us after dropping off our food. I guess I expected more. Food was delicious!

Server did not even ask what tea we wanted. We have been dining at the Peninsula for more than a decade. It was our 2nd kitchen. Standards have fallen and quality of food sub par for a 5 star hotel. Our first experience in Oct '23 was outstanding (food, service, ambiance, live music, etc) which is why we returned for a holiday dinner with another couple in early December that was disastrous. But, we figured that perhaps they were having an off night, so tried it again on New Years. Although the food, like the Dec visit, was again average (warm lattes and soup not hot), the carpet looked as if it wasn 't vacuumed in days, considering all the food debris that was present and the service was sub standard. Not at all what one would expect from the Peninsula.

Servers were attentive as you can expect from fine dining. We ordered short rib hash. It had a lot of flavours... onions on top were sweet vinegar. Meat was tender. Gravy was subtle. Potatoes were hashbrown patties. I almost expected cubed potatoes but the dish was served with hashbrown patties. Hot chocolate was delightful. Not overly sweet. If you need a quiet spot to recharge from holiday shenanigans, this is THE spot. Valet was quick and easy, too.
