Carries a great selection of vegan and vegetarian, organic and gluten-free goodies, as well as some local farm offerings. Much pricier than some other local health foods shops but if you're looking for a local no-frills shopping experience without the congested atmosphere of the larger chain store and a unique selection of raw and vegan food to go, this fits the bill. If you're looking for staple items, save a few bu... View all feedback.
I admit that it was a long time ago when I worked at integral yoga natural foods in nyc, and that charlottesville is much smaller than new york. but when we stopped here, it was unfair to expect a similar place where I had worked. that reminds me of the co-ops I was in asheville and knoxville. they have a nice juiceable, a lot of really beautiful looking organic products more than most co-ops, but actually when I was on holiday in charlottesville, I had little need of products. the bulk area looks pretty good. the small hot bar had some delicious carrot soup, but also a masala with milk in it. and for me the biggest problem is loading with this, apart from the cost, the spread of milk products. I think they wear daiya for vegans if they don't make it daiya's mother company test on animals; and then the majority of the cheese is milk, milk, milk. a place cannot sell animal meat, but it is the same difference when they sell milk. I have long said about co-ops and other places that don't make me pay more for eating when I support a business that goes into the right ethical direction. but because I have a budget if I will spend my money on a place with a lot of milk, I could also go to whole foods and more for what I spend. it is not quite the same, but it is similar. i even had a few finished tofurky sandwiches to go; but they all contain milk cheese slices. I probably would have bought it for our home trip from virginia. but no luck. the personal was all incredibly nice and friendly. that helps.
I'm here for the second time today. I need to get to know the bus line better so I can come here more often! I had a delicious vegan milkshake (edip butter cup with chocolate mandelmilch), and a prepared vegan sandwich. both were fresh and delicious. the avocado on the prepared sandwich was very fresh and alive. their products are actually local and bio. my mother and I were impressed to see organic grapes in fresh consisted. I also enjoyed shaking (sea salt, ground black pfeffer) and bulk properties (chia, Turkish feigen, kicherbsen, raw cashews) in the extensive (more than rebecca’s natural food’s store). it was cost-effective and efficient. also they have a great selection of expensive nomen (like raw chips, raw moon butters) and their selection of vegan ices beats foods of all nations, rebecca’s and perhaps even whole foods! they have a pretty good choice of vegan cheese, but no kite hill (I haven't seen this yet on the west coast), nor have they have raw vegan cheese (can not remember the brand) that is sometimes sold in fresca on addison in richmond, virginia. the student discount with id is great! I want to support them as much as possible. probably my favorite food store in charlottesville.
What a great little food! I stumbled here after hearing from some friends living in yogaville (yogaville.com), and had no idea that they even had a juice/smoothie bar. but damn, these juices and smoothies are badass. I had a series of articles on this menu since I moved to charlottesville, and they were all amazing (and affordable for the quality, I could add). they have some unique juice and smoothie options that I have never seen, even though I rolled around nyc dc for sincere juice/smoothie options. they are really focused on taste and health, so they will see juices called the detoxifier and liver flush many options. they have this vegan earthberry cashew date smoothie. omg. it is. so good. it tastes like strawberry. I love to tap here a kombucha on tap or to store on bulk stuff. they have some pretty big sales, and I would say that these sales make their prices comparable if not better than whole foods. in any case in the bulk area. it is quite widespread that they have the best products and supplements in the city. all their local products actually originate from local farmers, and it is highest quality for large prices. with that no other food can compete with them and the supplements department often has great sales, as from sometimes on the really big, chic supplements. here's all vegetarian. only on the bottom: no eggs. that would be a one-stop shop for me if they had. but good. for this is the Saturday market in the city, isn't it? idk, why her website isn't listed here. it is iyfoods.com
Good selection of COMPLETELY VEGETARIAN FOODS,bath products, herbs, nuts, bulk items, produce, etc. SUPPORT the locals! Not a big conglomerate. Friendly people usually, fun to shop and bump into old friends. While many health food stores have gone to carrying meat, they do not.
Fun place to visit - always friendly and helpful monthly specials always great
