What AelieS dislikes about Purlieu Modern Bistro:
I had high hopes for this restaurant with such amazing reviews but I was left feeling very disappointed in the meal last night. Very small portions for an expensive price, under seasoned and poorly cooked duck. Veggies were overcooked and under seasoned. The pork belly skin was so overcooked and hard that it couldn't be cut with a knife. I expected a lot more from a high end French restaurant and sadly won't be back. View all feedback.
I had the pleasure of dining at a charming Purlieu bistro last night for my birthday and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. The restaurant boasted a warm and inviting atmosphere, with a cozy ambiance that made me feel right at home. The service by Sam was impeccable. He made excellent recommendations and ensured that our meal was a delightful one. The food was simply divine. Each dish was meticulously prepared by the kitchen crew and presented with an artistic flair. The flavors were bold and authentic, showcasing the true essence of French cuisine. From the delicate appetizer to the decadent dessert, every bite was a culinary masterpiece. Overall, I highly recommend this French bistro to anyone seeking a truly memorable dining experience. The combination of exceptional food, attentive service, and a charming atmosphere made for an unforgettable evening. I can't wait to return again soon!
Very pleasurable dining experience. Would recommend!
Purlieu Wow! This is a small unassuming French restaurant in a strip mall in a southwest Calgary residential district. It has less than 20 tables. What may have been lacking in décor was more than made up for in the quality of the food. The menu, while small in number of items, has something for everyone. I think there were about 7 appetizers and about 7 main courses and three deserts, augment by specials of the day. Our party of 4 enjoyed the baked brie, salade maison, coquilles St Jacques and also the calamar. For main courses we enjoyed the Bouillabaisse and one of the 2 specials of the day. The Plat Du Jour happened to be pork tenderloin. The tenderloin, wonderfully spiced, was presented with baby potatoes, artichoke, a carrot, cauliflower and cherry tomatoes. We also tried 2 of the 3 deserts on the menu and enjoyed them both. My wife and I are members of two of the most exclusive or fanciest clubs in Calgary and, since I regularly order pork tenderloin when out, I can report that Purlieu’s presentation was the best I have seen in Calgary even in some of the ultra fancy restaurants and clubs. Dinner guests, on the evening we ate there, were vary casual. I was the only one in the place wearing a sport jacket [nary a tie to be seen].
Small, intimate restaurant. Terrific food, superb service. We'll go here more often.
Service was excellent. Food was fresh and presented well. Good cocktails. The three of us had Duck a la orange. We all agreed it fell below expectations. Flavor was bland and duck was not as tender compared to other restaurants. Overall a very pleasant evening.
