Boxwood Cafe - Calgary

This restaurant was owned by the River Café group who sold it to the owners of Avec. The RG group reopened the Deane House. Sorry to see Boxwood leave but been very happy with Provision

The service was nice. I always admire friendly wait staff who work so hard for relatively low wages. The food was just ok - nothing to go back for. The 2 people who appeared to be the owners or managers were off to the side having a casual meeting/supper and did not make a good impression for their restaurant. They were poorly dressed and acting way too casual.It's a small cafe and everything is noticeable. We were glad to stop in and experience the ambience but won't be going back or recommending it.

Boxwood est très joliment situé au coeur de Mémorial Park, près du centre de Calgary. Endroit sympathique, ambiance conviviale, menu simple mais bouffe excellente.Le café est correct , mais il manque une machine à expresso pour avoir ma note parfaite! Cependant, j'y retournerais volontiers, tant le tartare de truite était délicieux!

While wandering the sites of Calgary we found this small cafe in a local park. It just happened to be happy hour so we had some hummus and a glass of wine. We were very impressed so we returned later in the week for lunch. I had a kale salad and my wife ordered lentil soup. This is a very comfortable, friendly cafe with quality food.

We stopped in on a whim (as a party or four) and right from the start had challenges with service. It was busy but not exceptionally so we never figured out the reason. Drinks (once our order was taken) took more than 35 minutes to come. Food, even longer. And, while the food was good, it was not worth the wait. I'm just glad we were out for a relaxed night and not with anywhere to go. We will try somewhere else next time.
