Ordered large chips, took minutes. People who ordered meals after us got their food before us. Girl was too busy starring at her boyfriend who was standing on the other side of the road. Will be going to the fish and chips shop next...door next time.
Parked in cheap car park on other side of road, greeted by friendly proprietor and we ordered one smaller portion regular cod and chips and one adult portion gluten-free cod and chips. Both were served with a lemon wedge, and tartare sauce for the regular...(informed it contains gluten) only. The smaller portion regular cod meal was a decent portion: easily enough for lighter-eating adults and many medium-sized kids, the batter was great a and the cod fresh, succulent and fell into perfectly melting flakes, no fish scales or bones either! The gluten-free batter is one of the best I have ever tried, and the cod was the freshest, best, most succulent I've ever had in gluten-free batter. Equally free of scales or bones. Chips were decent too. Price? Absolute bargain! Thank you to the proprietor who clearly takes pride in his chippy!
No advertising in the shop that GF is available- we found via google search. My GF battered fish n chips was really tasty, the fish flaky and ‘meaty’ really good. Hubbie had standard fish n chip and he actually preferred the GF batter! Not that...the usual wasn’t good!! Will definitely go back next time we are this way.
I highly recommend looking for a different restaurant. I only wanted to order sausages and chips to go. There was only one chef and servers working. I opted for sausages because they were already cooked, but it still took a long time and the service was subpar. The sausages were overcooked and the portion of chips I received was huge, but unfortunately, a significant portion of them were inedible. Save yourself the trouble and choose a different food establishment.
I had haddock and chips for takeaway last night. I wish I hadn't! It was the worst fish and chips I have ever had. The haddock tasted awful, like it was old. After a few bites, I felt sick and the feeling stayed with me all night. It definitely did not taste like proper haddock. The chips were okay but very thin and dry, and there weren't many of them. I spoke to the manager the next day and he apologized and offered me a free fish and chips next time, but I declined as I was so disappointed. I felt betrayed by the whole experience. Sorry to the management, but I have to be honest.
