We had a dinner, bed and breakfast booking at the Carlton hotel so everything was included. The choices for dinner were very good and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service was very good too. Breakfast was very busy but we were shown to a table and the procedures were explained to us. Even though it was hectic, food dishes were kept well stocked and we enjoyed a good breakfast. What vikki559 doesn't like about Fredrick’s:
Dinner menu is ok, reasonable choice variety but it was alll cooked in a very amateurish way, starters very basic, steak over cooked desserts looked like they were made by a primary schoolchild. Ambiance is a cross between a nursing home a state institution but does have nice views over garden outdoor pool, it felt like it was only catering for coach parties. Breakfast was a standard hot cold spread of food, nice eno... View all feedback.

This charming restaurant located inside the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel has a traditional atmosphere. The tables are nice and there is no loud music playing, making for a pleasant dining experience. We always enjoy our visits here as the staff are friendly and attentive. The fillet steak with pepper sauce and fries is top-notch, comparable to other places we have dined at (4 stars). I also tried the lasagna and found it to be delicious. My husband particularly enjoyed the tomato soup.
First off, absolutely no music or anything. Very haunting eating in silence or whispers as couples and families are very conscious everyone can hear each other. Starters were good, with large portions. Nachos especially good, calamari rather salty. 5/10 Mains huge portions again, but quantity over quality. Very standard lasagna and a bbq hunters chicken burger with chips. Burger was massive, but lacked bbq sauce and the quality of burger was very basic nugget like, as a burger connoisseur I rarely ever fail to finish, but alas this burger had plenty leftover. Cheesecake to finish describe as honeycomb, but was more of a New York with no evidence of honeycomb. Service was mixed, very polite and attentive staff, however a couple of lapses. Wife ordered a lime and soda and got a lemonade with a lime wedge, second time round they got it right (after forgetting she ordered one for 10 minutes) Disappointing but luckily was included in our spa hotel stay so didn’t feel as bad dining here.
We had a 7pm Saturday reservation all things considered with covid19 the restaurant had a number of guests, I’m guessing mainly from the hotel and timeshare apartments, but we were spaced well apart. The lighting and ambience was not the best but the food was good. The menu was varied with some great veggie options. Between us we had garlic mushrooms, calamari and prawns with chorizo starters which were seriously delicious, probably the highlight of the overall meal. The pasta with prawns, cherry tomatoes and chilli main was quite a large helping and could have had a touch more chilli. The pulled beef wellington was rather heavy. It was served on a bed of mashed potato which was probably not necessary and the peas were hard. None of this detracted from our birthday celebration eating experience,it wasn’t the best but the staff were polite and helpful. The Barolo wine was obviously straight from the cellar and improved as it reached room temperature over the course of the meal.
Splendid restaurant, nicely dressed, let down by the 'coach trip ' group and the newer timesharers now in the Carlton. The extensive menu offered a great choice and the food was well-cooked and presented attractively. The prices were fair for what was on offer and dinner was very enjoyable. Worth a visit, if only to sample the food !
