Description

**Restaurant William: A Mixed Experience in Port Stephens**

Restaurant William presents itself as an intriguing dining destination with a beautiful interior and friendly service. However, guests have expressed concerns over limited transparency regarding menus and pricing, particularly for wine and desserts. The food has received mixed reviews; while some find it delicious and beautifully presented, others criticize the portion sizes and additional costs for vegetables not included in shared meals. Additionally, ventilation issues and poor lighting in certain areas have raised safety concerns. Despite the restaurant's potential, diners await improvements to enhance the overall experience.

The restaurant lost our reservation, and when we arrived, it felt like we had walked into a closed establishment. Eventually, the staff assisted us and seated us, but we were the only customers in that section, making the whole experience quite awkward.

One particular concern was when we requested a wine list. We were informed that while one was available, they preferred to start by offering us a tasting of three wines of their choice. From that selection, we chose a glass each of sauvignon blanc. Similarly, when we asked for a dessert menu, our waiter mentioned there were only two options available, and we opted for one of each. Both desserts were delicious, but in both cases—wine and dessert—we felt uncomfortable asking for prices, which was our oversight. When the bill arrived, it totaled $172, covering a starter of bread, a small portion of duck breast, a small serving of pork belly accompanied by a minor side of pak choy and a bowl of iceberg lettuce doused in what seemed like bottled oyster sauce, along with two desserts, two glasses of wine, and two coffees. With larger portions and a more transparent dessert and wine menu, we likely would have left with a better impression. Additionally, I suggest that a venting system for your smoker be installed. After our visit, we found that all our clothes needed to be washed, and we had to shower and wash our hair to remove the lingering smell of wood smoke. Overall, while the venue has much to offer and our waiter was both capable and friendly, we hope this review serves as constructive feedback to address the areas that fell short of expectations. At this time, we cannot recommend Restaurant William.

Food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented and the service was superb....Nic was incredibly attentive without being overbearing.
