Camp Copperhead - BIG INDIAN
Camp Copperhead
Description
Set within an immersive week-long songwriting retreat led by Steve Earle, this camp delivers rare access to a celebrated artist, high-caliber guest instructors, nightly concerts and hands-on workshops that spark creativity, camaraderie and lasting collaborations. Attendees praise the inclusive, energetic atmosphere, meaningful peer exchange and practical lessons in lyrics, chords and storytelling. However, organization and instructor availability can be uneven at times, and informal access isn’t always guaranteed. For aspiring songwriters and devoted fans seeking inspiration and community, it remains a highly recommended, potentially life-changing experience.
Feedback
During our time together, the sessions felt quite disorganized, and it appeared that he wasn't particularly excited to engage with the campers. Contrary to what his promotional materials suggest, I didn't feel encouraged to approach him over breakfast or engage in meaningful conversations. I’m sharing this review to challenge him to elevate the experience for future attendees. If he is committed to making things better, I hope he will take action. But if not, it feels unfair to just take people's money without delivering a valuable experience. Steve is a talented songwriter, and I want to believe he has grown as an instructor. Perhaps he has made strides; perhaps not. I'll always be a fan of his music, but I'm uncertain about the songwriting lessons. I sincerely hope they’ve improved and prove me wrong. Please feel free to fill in your own experiences in this regard; I hope they are all five-star.
Steve is a generous artist who truly doesn't need to run this camp. He gathers talented artists who share their intelligence, wisdom, and camaraderie with us. This experience would be exceptional in any context, but it particularly resonates with those of us fortunate enough to be a part of it. Plus, it leads to the formation of new friendships. The creative energy is both thrilling and inspiring.
