What Chidi F doesn't like about Bolete Inn:
. The host gave us the worst table so we could not enjoy any ambiance if there was any. The food was nothing to write home about; could not find the salmon in the salmon benedict. Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 1.
I ordered a seared foie gras appetizer, which was disappointing due to its very small portion and overcooking. It tasted good, but it was disheartening nonetheless. The Dayboat Scallops were beautifully arranged, but the dish fell short. It needed an extra element, perhaps chunks of pancetta or unsmoked bacon, instead of the awkward texture that pomegranate seeds added—it was quite a culinary misstep. Additionally, the promised Brussels sprouts turned out to be just one and a half, deconstructed and barely serving as a garnish. As a serious vegetable lover, this was a very unfortunate oversight—and two issues in one dish is quite a letdown. That said, the scallops were top-notch.
I am truly disappointed. Bolete used to be my favorite restaurant, and I often recommended it to everyone. However, it seems to be changing for the worse. Perhaps their newfound notoriety has affected them? I’m not sure, but I do know that I won’t be returning. While some of the food is genuinely excellent, other dishes are just mediocre. Their prices are quite steep, and in some cases, feel misleading or even like a rip-off (definitely avoid the wine pairing with the chef’s tasting menu!). I’ve also noticed a decline in attention to detail, such as receiving the wrong dishes or drinks, and poor timing with food selections. To make matters worse, they forgot to acknowledge my birthday during my last visit, despite my husband’s prior request. Our last meal there cost $550 for four people, and for that price, I expect exceptional quality, not just average fare. When I tried to address my concerns on their comment card, I received a dismissive response that labeled my feedback as simply a “misunderstanding.” I would recommend trying another restaurant instead.
This restaurant is definitely worth a visit in the area. The portions are generous, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between laid-back and classy.
