This place serves up pretty good Thai dishes and the place is super friendly and relatively quiet. The beef however in my noodle dish had a big piece of chewy inedible sinew. Prices are good but there's lots of competition in the area. View all feedback.

What Shamus O'Ryan D dislikes about Plearn Thai:

Made reservation and arrived and posted hours on line with open table were not close to what was real hours at the restaurant. Plearn in Berkeley didn't open until an hour after we had confirmed reservation. Obviously suggest restaurant and open table update hours. I ate at original plearn all the time in the 80's and eat at the one in walnut creek now. View all feedback.

I visited this restaurant for dinner for the first time. I decided to try the Mee Krob appetizer, which is not something you usually find at Thai restaurants in the East Bay. It was absolutely delicious. The squid salad was also fantastic, although quite spicy. Unfortunately, the jumbo fried prawns were a letdown. The fried eggplant with pork and chicken was decent, but nothing special.

I have never experienced Thai cuisine that was as flavorless and unappealingly plated as I did at this restaurant. Despite the lackluster food, I was pleasantly surprised by the affordable prices - with a beer costing only $3.75. I wouldn't return unless I found myself nearby and only looking for a beverage.

The restaurant offered delicious food at a reasonable price, with excellent service despite having just one waitress. The dishes were brought out one by one as they were being prepared. The final dish was delayed slightly as they had run out of tofu and had to fetch more. Nonetheless, our overall experience was enjoyable and we plan to come back again. Following the recommendations of previous reviewers, we steered clear of dishes with a red pepper symbol, yet one dish still ended up being a tad spicy.

Wanted a place close to Berkeley Rep for pre-show dinner. First time there, so going off of other reviews for quality and fast service. It wasn't crowded so we had attentive service which we were looking for, don't know how it might be on another night if crowded. chicken satay and Tod-mun fish cakes starters were very good. Eggplant w/ pork and veggies (47 was very good, the beef w/ red curry sauce (27? came as meat only in the dish which we didn't realize and were a little disappointed in the flavor and lack of other ingredients... both the white and brown rice are very good. Portions are fair, we took a small box of leftovers, and we were satisfied overall. Seems to be a nice neighborhood reliable place.

Not bad is the best that can be said. Bland chicken coconut milk soup with chicken meat that must have spent a long time in the freezer it was so tough and dried out. Green beans smothered in an oily sauce, again with no distinctive spicing. At least it wasn't expensive.

Got here before they opened last weekend, and after a few minutes of waiting outside, we got invited in, which was very nice! I ordered the BBQ chicken, which was delicious. Also had a prawn appetizer, also quite good. Everything was fresh and tasty. Plus I took home leftovers, which went fast! Will have to go back soon.

The first time for dinner. Had their Mee Krob appetizer, which is not served in most East Bay Thai restaurants. It was very good. Squid Salat was excellent as well as quite hot. Jumbo fried prawns disappointing. Fried eggplant with chicken OK.

I've never had such tasteless and unimaginable Thai food in my life. On a good note the costs were so cheap we couldn't believe it. A beer was $3,75. No reason to return unless we're in the area and need a beer.

Good food, average price, good service in the light of only 1 waitress. 1 dish was served at a time that was prepared when. Last court pretty slow because ran out of Tofu and had to go and get it. However, the food and silence lent to our definitely return Took other reviewers comments taking into account and no meal ordered with a red pepper icon. But 1 meal was still a little spicy

The food was good and the portions generous. Nice ambiance. Reasonably convenient to BART and entertainment venues. NOTE that, when I arrived at the restaurant at the reserved hour, Plearn Thai's server told me and my guests that she had no record of my Open Table reservation for a table for 6 people at the expected time. Fortunately, there was room for us anyway, and we were seated promptly. This is the first time I've used Open Table for this particular restaurant, so I don't know if that was a one-time glitch or if it's a recurring issue.
