Set in the 1930s Berkeley City Club, Julia’s delivers an elegant, old‑world dining experience with consistently excellent service and standout afternoon tea—scones with Devonshire cream and a surprising African root tea. Desserts and classic dishes impress, though the menu is conservative rather than adventurous. Vegetarian choices are limited and there are no vegan entrees; steaks tend toward medium doneness. Expect intimate seating, fair-to-premium prices, limited parking, and occasional confusion about Restaurant Week lunch availability. Ideal for couples, celebrations, and afternoon‑tea seekers.
Delicious food paired with attentive staff in a setting that feels like it’s from another time.
Excellent service, a charming space in a historic building, and delicious food.
The food at Julia's was good, and the afternoon tea was enjoyable. We had planned to try the Restaurant Week menu, but it turns out they don’t serve the lunch menu on weekends. This was quite disappointing since this wasn’t mentioned on the posted lunch menu or Julia’s Restaurant Week page. As is common with places that aren’t steak specialists, ordering medium-rare ended up closer to a solid medium—something we’ve learned to expect to avoid overcooked steaks and food waste. The black tea was underwhelming and a bit bitter, but the African root tea was a fantastic find. The scones with Devonshire cream were delightful and a big part of why I love afternoon tea. Pros: a reliable spot for afternoon tea, though it’s on the pricey side at $50 per person after tax and tip. Cons: insufficient online information about Restaurant Week hours, parking challenges, and underwhelming steak quality.
I just had the best risotto I have eaten ever. This is a cool place. Really pretty and elegant. We were here to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. The drinks were amazing. For dessert we had the vanilla crème brûlée. The waitress was sweet and comped our dessert. Great experience. Price per person: $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
