Reviews - Cafe Durant
Reviews summary
In the vibrant late-night scene of Berkeley, Sweetheart stands out as the prime destination for boba enthusiasts, celebrated for its flavors and welcoming atmosphere. However, culinary experiences in the area vary widely. Some establishments promise authentic Latino fare but have received mixed reviews regarding food quality and service. While cozy cafés attract students with delectable pastries and great coffee, others face criticism for dismal service and subpar meals. Despite the culinary highs and lows, Berkeley remains a diverse food haven where diners seek unique flavors and memorable experiences under the city’s eclectic charm.

Always a good breakfast/lunch stop. Gotten a little pricey from my poor student days, but can't help but return here esp for a breakfast/brunch as the food is always delicious. Fresh squeezed orange juice always pleases too. Service: Dine in Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: $10–20 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes: Sundeck Combo D
Visit with a Berkeley student, we had a great breakfast. Sat upstairs on the deck, sunny! Service: Dine in Meal type: Breakfast Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Sundeck Combo D
Amazing cafe! But it's been closing early lately. Maybe they need more business to justify staying open later. I hope more people start coming here. Price per person: $1–10 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
I tried to go there for breakfast, but they were closed. The dark stairway was really creepy. Service: Dine in Meal type: Breakfast

Sweetheart is the go-to spot for late-night boba cravings in Berkeley. The clientele includes drunken frat stars, students pulling all-nighters, and nearby restaurant workers during the bustling midnight hours. I believe Sweetheart serves the best boba in town. While some may disagree, I stand by my opinion. Compared to other popular boba spots like Purple Kow, ShareTea, Bobo Drinks, and Quickly, Sweetheart stands out for its perfect balance of price, quality tea, and delicious pearls. The friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere add to the overall appeal of the place. However, if you're looking for snacks, you might want to try another spot as only the fried chicken at Sweetheart is worth the money. Overall, Sweetheart is the place to go for a great boba drink, nothing more. Rating: 7.2/10
The service at this restaurant can vary from a bit rude to pretty cool. The food comes out quickly, but there can be delays even if the app (I recommend using Snackpass) says it's ready. This place has the best boba in Berkeley because they are consistent with their quality, taste, and business practices. I will need to give Boba Ninja another try as they seemed pretty good too. However, Plentea and Share Tea have seen a drop in quality.
My husband and I, who are from out of state, were looking for a late-night dining option close to where we were staying. As we were driving down the street, we noticed the enticing smells coming from a restaurant next door to a store we had stopped at. Intrigued, we decided to check it out. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious burgers, fries, and ketchup - they were some of the best we've ever had. The meals were simple, yet incredibly tasty. We definitely plan on visiting this place again. The ordering process was quick and easy, although I had a bit of trouble finding where to insert my chip for payment - it was a bit of a silly mistake on my part! I had read some other reviews in the morning before going to the restaurant, and I must say, the man working there was friendly and polite to us, even though it was late at around 2:30AM.
Best boba I’ve had in Berkeley! They have an order screen out front that makes it easier to order without having to talk to anybody (for shy people) and the employees are nice. The snacks are also great. I recommend the chicken, fries, and honey milk tea, although all their teas are excellent. Definitely coming back.
I go here regularly, their sweetheart black tea is good, their fried octopus is a little too salty sometimes but their instant rice is pretty good, I have mixed feelings about this place, the boba is good but the people there are extremely rude, I came in and sometimes they don’t even bother to talk to you, I misunderstood where my order was and the guy just looked at me and stared me down then after I kept asking where I can pickup my order he finally showed me, also they act like they’re caught off guard whenever I tell them my order number, I always make sure to say my number clearly but I have to constantly repeat myself, if you order ahead on snackpass it’s alright, but this isnt the place to enjoy your service or enjoy waiting in the line they usually have of people ordering.

The restaurant offers a truly authentic Latino experience, with Latino decorations and seating. You can expect delicious food, affordable prices, and fresh ingredients with a Spanish influence. The staff was friendly and attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will definitely be returning. We ordered the Mexican combo and breakfast burrito for a delightful Sunday brunch.
The portions are generous, prices are reasonable. I highly recommend trying the breakfast combo D for $9.95, which includes pancakes, a strawberry crepe, veggie omelette, and fresh fruit. The Mexican hot chocolate is the highlight, make sure not to confuse it with other restaurants at the same location. Duran's is located upstairs to the left.
I love this place! The rooftop terrace seating, free Wi-Fi, and the food are always delicious. I usually just have breakfast here, but it's the perfect way to start the day. I love coming here to unwind after a day of work and enjoy the fresh air. The Breakfast Burrito is huge and very reasonably priced! (photo)
Great breakfast. I have the healthy breakfast with avocados. Comes with 2 eggs, avocado, large part of black beans and Spanish rice. Also really delicious sautéed vegetables. I didn't get the tortillas, but you have the choice of corn or flour. The food was fast and they have a nice balcony area. Recommended if you stay in Berkeley.

Located in Berkeley, this restaurant offers both breakfast and Mexican cuisine. I personally prefer breakfast and have only tried that option. The breakfast here is decent, with the pancakes standing out as a highlight. I particularly enjoyed the chocolate chip banana pancake. However, I found the eggs to be lacking in flavor. Overall, it is a good spot for breakfast, although I cannot speak to the quality of the Mexican food. The prices are affordable, making it a popular choice for college students. In addition to the pancakes, the rest of the breakfast options are average.

I only had one order of chips and guacamole, and the guacamole was excellent. The chips were crispy and fresh!
This restaurant is located in a beautiful area of Berkeley, within walking distance to UC Berkeley and offering a terrace seating option. The food looked incredibly appetizing and we were excited to try it. I ordered a fajita plate with chicken. Unfortunately, the chicken was quite disappointing. It was tough and difficult to chew, so I ended up not being able to eat it. I did manage to eat the salad and bread out of hunger, even though I usually don't eat much salad. It's worth mentioning that it was a slow Sunday at the restaurant.
Avoid this place at all costs! The service is terrible, with rude staff who fail to bring your food, fail to inform you when they are out of certain drinks, and even get your order wrong. When I requested a refund due to the poor service, they claimed to have technical difficulties and left me waiting without providing a refund or offering an alternative solution. They even asked me to come back after I had already left the restaurant to receive my refund, which is extremely unprofessional. Despite calling the next day to follow up, I have yet to receive my refund. Unless you enjoy headaches, bad service, and a terrible dining experience, stay away from this place. It was by far the worst culinary experience I have ever had.
The dining experience on the terrace is truly beautiful early in the morning of a foggy day. I got crepes here twice, savory and sweet, and both times I was kinda disappointed? I got a shake here though and it was delicious. The food is kinda expensive (but everything is here) so the Snackpass deals are really exciting. The service here is pretty dismissive though, even if you’re just asking a question ?
