What Scott W doesn't like about Berkeley Thai House:
This place is not bad but is hard to compare with other Thai restaurants I've been to. Parking is on the street and hard to find. Street parking is also not free. Service is welcoming and the place is clean. For taste, it's not bad but not great. I had the garlic noodles, which was good but I think the noodles were overcooked. Inviting place with Thai staples and an awesome “all day combo” feature including an entree, main, and drink for $18.99. The portions are generous and the food is satisfactory.Food: 4/5

This place is not bad but is hard to compare with other Thai restaurants I’ve been to. Parking is on the street and hard to find. Street parking is also not free. Service is welcoming and the place is clean. For taste, it’s not bad but not great. I had the garlic noodles, which was good but I think the noodles were overcooked. My son had the red curry but that was disappointing to me. The curry was thin, didn’t have much flavor, and was overloaded with vegetables but only a little chicken. My wife had the spicy basil fried rice but that was mediocre.
My family and I have visited this place a handful of times across the past few years and I can say that it has slowly declined. We came in for dinner and asked to be seated outside in the patio which was relatively empty except for a few tables. We were a party of 6 and our server chose a table for us which was exactly where the sun was hitting and it was in our faces. Given that there were other options to choose from, we asked to be moved and had to go back and forth about it. They mentioned that their tables couldn't be moved and came up with other minor reasons as to why we couldn't sit at some of the other tables. Finally, they pulled out a table extender which combined two of their tables, making them the perfect size for us. Knowing that was an option, I wish they would have done that from the beginning. The server came to take our order about 10 minutes after we had been seated. After taking our orders and bringing our waters and food, she didn't come by until it was time to take the plates. The food is okay, but it's not really worth the price. My sister got the combo that comes with a drink, appetizer, and entree. They used to offer a salad with it and don't anymore. I also realized that her plate was significantly smaller than those of ours who got entree only. The food needs more flavor. The papaya salad tasted less flavorful than last time we had it and my pad see ew also lacked some flavor. I will say that everything tastes pretty fresh and the noodles were perfectly cooked. Overall, I don't see this being our go-to spot anymore when my family is in town. I think there's room for improvement.
Favorite Thai takeout place in the east bay! Being able to order green curry with extra eggplant (and extra whatever else you want) has spoiled me for all other Thai takeout menus.Food: 5/5
