The taste is completely on another level compared to other sushi's I had before. Awesome also the green tea unsweetened, and the SNES as a decoration. Being able to exchange some phrases in Japanese with the owners completed the experience. 8 stars out of 5!! We believe it is owned and m... read more Okay, so Wasabi is primarily a japanese to-go place in Basel...but this doesn 't prevent it from having the best sushi in the city. We believe it is owned and managed by Japanese ex-pats, which distinguishes it from most of the Japanese-food restaurants we have met in the region.We 've been going there for the past few years, getting their sushi to go. We came from San Francisco over a decade ago, and have been searching for good sushi in the area ever since. Wasabi has the best sushi in town. The sashimi is quite good, but you can tell the quality of the food by care and the quality of the preparation rice, oddly enough. They have quality ingredients throughout their sushi...not just the fish. They also have other Japanese dishes, like karaage, gyoza,teriyaki, tempura, etc., but we mainly go there for the sushi. The last time we went to Wasabi, they asked us if we wanted to eat our order in , which meant actually eating it on benches within the small restaurant. The quality of the food makes it worthwhile to enjoy while eating on your lap!They do sell a limited quantity of Japanese staples (i.e. somen and sake) in the restaurant. And we noticed that they also give Japanese cooking (primarily sushi) classes. I am sure they do an excellent job, and we may partake at the next opportunity.We would encourage you, if you like real Japanese food, to try Wasabi.

Switzerland being landlocked this doesn't really come as that much of a surprise. Sushi options in Basel: Noohn is really overpriced, the guys at the Marktplatz whose name escapse me are better than Noohn, good enough to sit and eat and watch people walk by, fine in fact, but if you really want something that will make you smile then Wasabi is the real thing. I am glad someone else put a rating in for them it's probably the only real sushi in Basel Japanese run the quality is always perfect, and consistently sliced into morsels that like in Goldilocks porridge story are never too big nor too small but just right. The rice is also always perfect, some sushi places serve you slightly mushy rice, or rice that has been stored in the fridge and a bit hard which is inexcusable. Not wasabi with the Japanese eye for quality this place serves you perfection. Wasabi delivers the perfect marriage of rice and fish and charm. They also serve a couple different lunch menus including one or two warm dishes you can sit on a bench and eat there, but take note it's a take away and not a restaurant. You can pop by here on the way home from the train station, good location, open till around 8pm. If you are in the coop across the road, don't get your sushi there, as if I need to tell you that, but cross over to Wasabi. Only but is you HAVE to pay in cash, they don't take any kind of card credit or debit, so if you are hungry you will need to go hunt down some money before you can walk off with your beautiful meal. Prices are what you would pay for sushi if you get the 60 Sfr deal, you will have more than enough for 3 or 2 really starving eaters.
