Our German is embarassingly minimal but we had all the help we needed with the menu and made tasty choices. The restaurant was lively, a good buzzing atmosphere. An excellent find.

Unfortunaltely, I don't speak German but minimal Engligh is understood by waiter.

We are glad we did and learned that HahnBasel... read more My wife and I were in Basel (on a Viking tour) and chose this place in spite of the Viking staff being unfamiliar. We are glad we did and learned that HahnBasel has completely earned its high star rating! They are a small place ton call ahead for a reservation. For our meal we both had the beet soup agreed that the soup and bread would have made a brilliant meal. My wife had beef plus vegetables and I had the tuna dish. Both were visually and gastronomicly excellent. My wifw finished with a chesnut-orange creme brunette which you begrudgingly shared a bite with me. In summary, for a great meal where it almost feels like you are in someone's home this is the place in Basel.
