I was hoping to find a nice cafe/terrace of the type that is common in Central Europe for a pastry or gateway treatment. We didn't have much time, so for the nearby Confiserie Bachmann. The café has a long, narrow space with some tables. Not much ambience. The counter leads the length of the place, offers chocolate (palmines) and cookies, sandwiches, croissants etc., but a disappointing small selection of correct pastries. We managed to fit into a tiny room at one of the tiny tables. We ordered cappuccinos, a piece of St. Honoré-Gateau and a mango and passion fruit cream cake. While the cream cake was rather delicious, the St. Honoré was quite dry and tasted like he could stand around for a while. The coffees were okay, nothing special. The cost of this order was quite steep CHF24! Service was timely and efficient, but irritable. Unfortunately, I remembered too late that I had seen a mouthwater display of cakes in a shop in the station over the street when we arrived in Basel a few days earlier (but only propagates to take away).
We went with friends and enjoyed their coffee. Staff was friendly. The challenge was that tables were pushed very towards the back. the baked objects looked amazing, so on a more spacious table this would have a 5
I had a quick lunch here: a green salad with bread. The service was super friendly and impeccable. The salad was fresh, good salad dressing. The bread was ok. Cards accepted as payment. It's a little pricey, but a good option if you want to sit down for a lunch before taking a train.
