Description

Red Emma’s is a vibrant worker-owned bookstore and café that marries a meticulously curated selection of local and eclectic titles with a roomy, characterful dining area. The menu excels in plant-based comfort — from convincing pulled BBQ sandwiches to stellar cookies, dairy-free ice cream and inventive coffees with housemade syrups and multiple milk options. Regular live events and knowledgeable staff create a community hub feel. Expect lots of seating and a planned back bar; limited street parking and occasional curt service are minor quibbles.

This is definitely one of my favorite bookstores! It's an excellent spot for discovering thought-provoking reads. I came across so many fantastic titles—some I've read, some I want to read, and others I hadn't even heard of before. I really appreciated how they organized the books by topic, which made navigating the store a breeze. One thing I love is that it's a worker-owned cooperative, which I wholeheartedly support. I can’t wait to visit again, and I’ll definitely recommend it to friends visiting Baltimore.

If you know, you know. And if you don’t, you’re in for a treat. This restaurant is one of the reasons I feel a sense of safety in the world and maintain hope for people who strive to improve life for each other. Their menu offers an abundance of vegan options, along with outstanding coffees and teas. Downstairs, you'll find a wide selection of books on various topics, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, eager to discuss your choices with you.

Amazing food! As someone who follows a plant-based diet for health reasons rather than vegan ideology, I can speak to those who genuinely appreciate the taste of meat. This place has an outstanding pulled BBQ sandwich that perfectly replicates the texture of beef, along with a variety of delicious baked goods (the cookies are a solid 10!). They make this kind of diet enjoyable rather than just bearable.

Red Emma’s new location is going to be amazing once finished. i’m so glad i got to see it last night at their first live event, which was an amazing conversation about Dr Treva Lindsey’s latest book, America Goddam. the one and only Dr Martha Jones was the moderator!

Incredibly well curated and diverse bookstore. Selection includes everything from local authors to graphic novels. Bar in the back that we will definitely need to check out.
