New China - Asheville

Let's remember that the quality of American Chinese food in Asheville leaves much to be desired, but New 1 China gets a semi-enthusiastic thumbs up. It's definitely better than its competitor down the road, Dragon China, and almost as good as Oriental Pavilion. The dish I tried, Kung Pao chicken, had a nice mix of fresh vegetables, tender white meat, and a flavorful sauce - not gloppy at all. The egg roll was a bit greasy, but tasty when dipped in sauce. The lunch menu is affordable, the staff is friendly and efficient, and the small dining room, while not fancy, is perfect for a casual meal. I can see myself coming back here often, as it's a solid choice for a quick bite.
