Reviews - Sushi Lover
Reviews summary
Sushi Lovers offers budget-friendly all-you-can-eat variety with a traditional Japanese vibe, clear menu labeling, takeout deals and lunch service. Regulars praise value, large portions and some attentive servers, while the menu spans sushi, hibachi and teriyaki options. However, guests report inconsistent freshness, tempura and “fishy” rolls, sanitation concerns including an allergic reaction and an on‑site vomiting incident; management sometimes issues partial discounts. Service and parking vary, so it’s best for casual groups seeking variety but inspect takeout and raw items carefully.

The service is always top-notch. The quality of the sushi varies from average to exceptional. I usually visit at least once a month, which shows that I keep coming back for both the delicious food and the great value. The takeout specials are especially attractive when I'm looking for lunch but don’t want to eat in. View all feedback.
What Nicole Stumpf dislikes about Sushi Lover:
The sushi was acceptable, but I felt a bit anxious when they mentioned there would be an extra charge for any leftovers, especially since my bill had already reached $27, plus an additional $2.50 for a cup of iced tea. I understand they may be trying to minimize food waste, but it made me hesitant to try new dishes since there wasn't a clear explanation of what they considered "leftovers." The food was good, but the service was god awful. A table that got there after us got their order taken and food served before our server even came and introduced herself. She was quite rude the whole time and barely came to take more orders. We’ve been to the Sushi Lover in Green Bay before and it was night and day compared to this. Our server there was attentive, and even though it was busy, she always had our future orders lined up so that our wait time was not very long.
As for parking, it can be a bit tricky since the restaurant is located downtown in Appleton, especially in the evening.
The waitress who served us was not very attentive. She took our order but frequently forgot some items. After clearing our plates, she left quickly, giving us no opportunity to order more sushi. We ordered two servings of an appetizer but only received one. After a long wait, she finally came to check on us, but by then she had forgotten about our food, even though it was sitting right there, ready to be served. The food was excellent, but our experience would have been much better if the waitress had been more attentive.
While I believe you can't compromise on sushi quality, this place is definitely better than most all-you-can-eat sushi options I've seen. If you're not a fan of raw fish, they clearly label which items are cooked, raw, or spicy by listing ingredients in their rolls. For those who aren’t fans of sushi, they have a wide range of options like hibachi, teriyaki, yakisoba, fried rice, and more. What I appreciate most about Sushi Lovers is its charming traditional Japanese ambiance. In contrast, Akame feels more like you're paying for the atmosphere, with its pretty anime wallpaper, while Sushi Lovers focuses on providing larger portions and higher quality at a better value. Overall, it’s a lovely place for a date, lunch, dinner, or even a casual visit in your pajamas—suitable for any occasion. **Vegetarian Options:** They offer various veggie dishes clearly listed in the menu, and if you kindly request, they can adjust any ingredients to accommodate your preferences. **Kid-Friendliness:** They have high chairs available for kids, though I don't often see children dining here. However, they do offer a kid's menu featuring favorites like corn dogs, fries, and onion rings.

UPDATE: I had dinner here tonight, and unfortunately, it wasn’t very good. The food tasted like it had been sitting out for a while, and many items seemed pre-made given how quickly they were served. I initially gave 4 stars, but I’m lowering it to 2. The sushi was mediocre at best; once you’ve experienced really good sushi, the difference is clear. At $27.99 per person, I expected a different dinner menu instead of the same options as lunch. Overall, I wasn’t impressed, but if you’re craving low-quality crab rolls and appetizers that remind you of a gas station, this might suit you. On the bright side, the staff were generally friendly.
The all-you-can-eat menu at Sushi Lover is definitely appealing, offering a wide variety of options, which is a plus. The service was also quite good. However, the quality of the sushi seemed to suffer when they prepare rolls in such large quantities, and the freshness wasn’t quite there. Because of that, I’m not sure I would return.

The Crab Rangoon was somewhat greasy, but it was still decent enough.
We had dinner at Sushi Lovers on Saturday evening. My wife and I met our son around 6 PM; it's one of his favorite spots. Unfortunately, our server had really poor breath and tended to spit while talking, which made ordering quite uncomfortable. They did have a mask covering their chin, which helped a little. Once we got past that, we received our first plates of food, but then we heard a commotion. What I thought was a server spilling drinks turned out to be a customer vomiting. My son-in-law ended up with some on his arm and shoes, and the person sitting across from us had it on their shoulder as well. At this point, my wife couldn’t continue eating since she had just started. The server was kind enough to take back the dishes that may have been affected. The manager or owner then went around to explain to everyone that it wasn't the food that caused the incident—thankfully, the customer just couldn't handle sake for the first time. We asked if my wife’s plates could be removed from the bill since she only had two bites and had lost her appetite. The manager said, “Well, someone else at the table can eat it.” Later, our server returned to inform us that the manager had decided to offer us a 25% discount, which was pretty close to what we had requested. In reality, everyone in close proximity should have had their meals covered by management. Overall, it was a night to remember, though we won’t be returning. No thank you!
