Reviews summary

Beloved neighborhood eatery earns rave reviews for consistently excellent food—especially its empanadas—and attentive service. Menus span breakfast, brunch and dinner with Latin-European influences, clear vegetarian options and seasonal cocktails. The interior is warm and stylish, great for celebrations, though the space can feel cramped and loud. Regulars praise the quality but miss rotating empanada flavors and wish for more evening hours. A quirky, high-quality spot best for brunch-lovers and foodies, but less suited to those with sensory sensitivities.

This restaurant is a charming spot for breakfast! The welcoming ambiance and delicious food make it a fantastic choice. They offer a wonderful variety of vegetarian options, all clearly labeled. I highly recommend trying the coffee featured at the end of the menu (I can't recall the name), but it was absolutely delightful when served iced! Plus, they get extra credit for using metal straws!

What started as a quick lunch during our road trip turned into an unforgettable dining experience! Tucked away among various restaurant options, Author's Kitchen is a true hidden gem that shouldn't be missed. The charming and inviting decor sets the perfect atmosphere for a fantastic meal. Although parking can be a bit tricky, there is plenty of street parking available, and a short stroll after your meal is always a lovely idea, right? Don’t forget to take a moment to appreciate the artwork as you enter and check in at the front for seating. The staff were attentive and courteous, and we were seated shortly after arriving. We chose the lunch special, and the risotto was outstanding! There’s plenty of seating, and it seems they also have a full bar and a coffee area. I do wish we had space for dessert, but we were quite full after the main course. Did I mention that this meal definitely calls for a nap afterward? Treat yourself to a visit to this place; I promise you won’t regret it!

What a wonderful way to celebrate the first day of fall! The atmosphere was charming and inviting, and the decor was simply beautiful. The Not So Old Fashioned cocktail was delightful, and today’s soup special—a cheesy mix of broccoli and cauliflower—was perfect for marking the seasonal shift. I’m looking forward to my next visit!

As for my favorite menu items, I can't recommend the salmon sashimi enough (it's truly out of this world), as well as the chicken Parmesan, huevos rancheros, and the tomato soup (which is to die for). Honestly, their entire menu is fantastic! Also, I have to mention the floral mimosa, which has become a favorite of mine. I love champagne, but I'm not a big fan of orange juice, so their unique twist on this drink is just perfect for me!

This is undoubtedly one of the best places in Appleton. I'm impressed that the chef is Argentinian; he skillfully combines his cuisine with Midwestern tastes. I can't wait to return! @dietproof

This is a charming spot for breakfast! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the food was delightful. They offered plenty of clearly marked vegetarian options. I highly recommend the coffee featured at the bottom of the menu—its name slips my mind, but it was incredibly tasty, especially iced! Bonus points for the metal straw!

Hands down the best place I've eaten in Appleton in years. We had the fettuccine Alfredo and the Scottish salmon with toffee cake for dessert. We also had a cocktail before dinner. The food was moderately priced but tasted Michelin 5 star. The atmosphere is chic casual and a great place for a date or special occasion or not. The service was good but honestly who cares if the food is this amazing? We will definitely eat here again. I didn't ask about catering but would definitely cater a party or business meal if that was an option. They do have a room for groups as well.

Author’s Kitchen is charming and cozy! I really love the decor and atmosphere. The food is fantastic! The bread pudding (not shown) was incredibly delicious. The empanadas are outstanding, with perfectly flaky and tasty pastry. We tried a variety of dishes for lunch, and everything was excellent. Highly recommend!

Updated review: I still love Author’s, but I've noticed that they have the same empanada flavors every time I visit. They used to offer two rotating varieties, but now it’s only one, which is consistently mushroom Swiss. In the past, they had more creative options like a curry empanada, a breakfast variety, and one with short rib. I really wish there were more flavors to choose from. The food is absolutely incredible, though I do wish their hours were more accommodating for those of us who work full time.

The empanadas are fantastic, I would highly recommend stopping by for those! I do think the service could be improved. We received our appetizer after our main course which was a bit of bummer. I would chalk that up to them being busy but it’s important that servers are attentive to this when diners are ordering multiple courses. Overall, I would most likely try eating here again.
