The menu consists of many small savory and sweet dishes, and they are perfect for sharing if you are not alone. When we visited, the menu was built around the «bread» subject, so we got stuffed Indian bread, Lebanese bread, a Chinese bun, black lentil falafels; and marinated leeks. Everything we had was delicious, we enjoyed every single dish, and the presentation was also fantastic. The place is run by a couple and they were very welcoming and communicative. If I lived in Angers I would certainly come frequently because the food is well-thought and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Oh, and please book a table in advance, while we were eating I saw many people being turned away because the place was full (it's a small place that seats 8~12 people only). We knew nothing about Ronin, until we were desperate for a proper vegan meal... read more It 's a bold headline, but before jumping to any conclusions, allow me to explain. We knew nothing about Ronin, until we were desperate for a proper vegan meal whilst on a 2 week holiday in France headed from Plymouth to St Tropez. In fact, we skirted past Angers in the car, but stayed in a hotel 3 hours out of Angers that promised they understood vegan (French: Vegetalian . However, when the chef was suprised we didn 't drink milk or eat eggs, we realised it had all gone horribly wrong. But it was for one night and two meals, so no big deal we just had to be really specific, rely on fries, and then we headed on to St Tropez, where suprisingly, being vegan was even more difficult within a 1 hour radius of St Tropez. The odd restaurant here or there tried and mostly failed, even when we explained what we did or did not eat. So our journey home was looking like french fries and ketchup stops, or our own packaged spreads and preserves and fresh baguette. However, we stumbled upon RONIN in a google map search and were intrigued. Only open on certain days. 8 course set menu. Elevated vegan experience. Sounded amazing, and with our vegan 12 year old and 9 year old, the family decided to go all in. So much so, that we redirected our route back to the Roscoff ferry and booked a hotel in Angers JUST to eat at RONIN. Now, I have dined in the best restaurants around the world a perk of my job so vegan in Miami? Check. 3 Michelin starred gastronomy in Cheval Blanc? Check. Vegan in Hong Kong? Check. Across Germany? Check. London? Check... the list goes on, and whilst there have been standouts (such as PLANTA in Miami amazing! however, this restaurant RONIN was by far the most incredible experience. Not just for the food which is interstellar!... but the nurturing approach. The family run vegan values and fervour, and the details. Oh, the details! Incredible. It is like art curated by a Samurai sword master in the form of food AND presentation. Stand out. It is worth traveling just to France and staying in Angers for just one meal in this wonderful establishment. A celebration of life through food oh and when you have done that, you may need to be reminded it was all ethically sourced and vegan, too! The set menu was priced perfectly, and it is indeed value for money. This blows everything out of the water. See and taste it, for yourself!

I lived in Angers back then and I’m french but I want travellers and tourists to understand my review so it’s in English. The couple who owns the place (he’s the chef, she’s the waitress) are the most friendly people we’ve met in Angers. We talked a lot to them about food, veganism, their cuisine, they’re adorable and so interesting. She will explain to you every dish during the 9-courses meal. You can see him cooking and making sure that every dish is perfect. They work on their food for weeks and weeks before putting it in their menu, it’s always fresh and locally sourced as much as they can, they respect the seasons and they just get everything right. The flavours are unexpected and they will make you rediscover food in a unique way. Even the most simple dish they will turn it in the most delicious way, twisting the little simple things to take it to a whole new level of cooking. 60€ for a 9-course meal, it’s gastronomic food and the most delicious one you’ll get. I’m a huge food lover and Rōnin does not disappoint. It’s the best vegan experience you will ever have. Trust me, you do not want to miss that. I even offered dinner to my parents for Christmas (who are not vegan at all, my dad’s a hunter) because I want them to try the best vegan food they will ever have.
