Feedback
May Cafe offers a mixed dining experience, with standout dishes coexisting alongside some disappointments. While the Beef Pho and May Cafe Soup have garnered praise for their rich flavors, patrons have expressed dissatisfaction with certain appetizers like the spring rolls, which some felt lacked freshness. Consistency varies, with long-time customers delighting in classic offerings like bun dishes and Vietnamese coffee, while first-timers rave about outstanding service and flavorful soups. With reasonable prices and a welcoming atmosphere, May Cafe attracts a diverse clientele, making it a potential local favorite despite some room for improvement in certain menu items.
The Egg Drop Soup included both yolk and egg whites, which was delightful! The Combo Vermicelli Bowl was presented on a plate rather than the usual bowl, but this did not detract from the amazing flavors of the fresh, perfectly cooked ingredients. At first, I thought this might be a one-off situation, but I observed similar plate usage in El Paso as well; maybe it's a trend in the western United States!
Everything was great, as usual. We ordered the cube steak and the udon noodle soup with shrimp. Both dishes were delicious, but they didn't stand out as anything particularly special. The soup had four small shrimp in it. They also offered basil leaves for the soup this time, which were not available during our previous visit. The Thai tea, on the other hand, was fantastic.
May Cafe is a Vietnamese restaurant on Louisiana located behind the KFC at Louisiana and Central.I’m not familiar with Vietnamese food. My friend and I found ourselves there after we tried to dine across the street at Pad Thai Café but were unable to as the latter only accepted cash.May Cafe’s menu is split into 11 sections: appetizers, pho, noodle soups, stir fried noodles, rice vermicelli bowls, rice dishes, specials, side dishes and additions, seafood dishes, beverages, and a dessert.I selected #82, the stir fried spicy basil with chicken, for $13.25. The dish came with a side of white rice and contained basil, peppers, chicken, and a lot of onions in a light sauce. I enjoyed the meal, though I think I would have enjoyed more ingredients. Luckily I really enjoy onion. It was cooked well with the onion slices having a slight crunch. If someone doesn’t enjoy onions, they should not get this dish. The heat is what I would call a hot spice level at a Thai restaurant (but not “authentic hot” , so a 4 out of 5 heat wise.I found myself hungry soon after the meal, so future patrons may want to order an appetizer.
We visited May Café for the first time on Saturday and couldn’t resist going back on Tuesday! During our first visit, we tried the Beef Pho, and it was absolutely delicious! On our second trip, we had the May Café Soup with noodles, which was incredible! The spring rolls are the best we’ve ever had, and my husband and I both agree that we could make a meal just from those spring rolls—so tasty! The service is exceptional, and everyone is incredibly friendly. We’re looking forward to returning this weekend. It has definitely become our favorite spot to eat!
Stop by for lunch. The spring roll was mediocre, not even fresh mints or cilantro. The sauce with it could be better, and why not offer peanut sauce instead of basic cheap fish sauce? I also had the VN, Sandwich was a bit small, and the meat was chewy, not fresh. Maybe their other dishes are better hoping to give it another try next time.
