Description

Set on the shoreline with live music and sweeping views, this rustic seaside retreat offers cozy, well‑equipped rooms and a popular Sunday seafood buffet that delights many guests. Staff are generally friendly and accommodating, and the setting suits families, groups and pet owners. Experiences vary: some visitors report uneven seasoning, limited buffet portions, slow complaint responses and occasional cleanliness issues. Expect no air conditioning or Wi‑Fi and a seasonal winter closure—best for special occasions and weekend bookings.

Very disappointed. We were there for a Friday evening pizza evening, bar not properly staffed, charged us for drinks we did not have and we got the wrong bottle of wine! Beautiful setting, great food, but to busy, bar tender too busy to listen. We will not recommend Strandkombuis to friends or anybody...

My husband and I had their buffet seafood lunch on Sunday on recommendation by someone I know, and we had such a wonderful time that we've made another reservation for 8 family members in a few weeks time again! R375 per person gets you a starter of homemade bread and yellowtail fish soup, which consists of line fish, mussels, prawns, salads, roasted potatoes, and pumpkin fritters. Dessert was koeksisters and coffee or tea. Absolutely every bite was delicious! I wish I could have eaten more! The seafood buffet is only served on Sundays. The bar opens at 12h00, starters served at 13h00, mains at 14h00, and dessert at 15h00. There's always a musician performing live. Other things to note: it's pet friendly, and there's some games set out on the grass for kids to play with (bats and balls, jenga, dominoes). In between meals, you can stroll down to the beach. Overall, this was just such a holistically wonderful experience and great value for money! Keep in mind that The Strandkombuis closes mid-May to September during the winter season.

Beautiful location. Very nice food. Buffet is a good selection of seafood. Unfortunately you have to drive a dirt road to get to the place. Very good atmosphere with very, very friendly staff. Service: 4 Location: 3

We went at short notice over the year-end of 2023 and it was a really pleasant experience. The buildings are not new hotel like, but repurposed heritage units, which makes the experience very different, but super relaxing and enjoyable. We had the old-year's Sunday lunch, which was great albeit expensive. Breakfast is included and is again served outside under pergolas with only a dune between die location and the sea. We enjoyed sundowners at the top of the dune and then had our own braai using the kitchen/pergola area as did quite a few other guests. All in all it is a great find and we'll definitely be back!

The buffet allows for 3x prawns and 3x calamari strips per person basically if you therefore want more of these specifically go somewhere else. Edit: I contacted the establishment directly per their request below almost 48 hours later and no reply recieved. The lady advised us on the day that they are done cooking and that the calamari was frozen rock solid so sorry definitely no cooking until everyone is done per the reply recieved from the establishment. Definitely NOT worth the money and petrol spent!
