Sam's Monkey Tree Pub
Description
Monkey Tree in Yellowknife offers a mixed experience for diners. Some customers praise the fun atmosphere, great service, and enjoyable food and drinks, including weekly promos. However, others have found the service inconsistent and the food subpar, criticizing overcooked dishes and questionable quality. The ambiance at Monkey Tree is laidback and entertaining, with amenities like a pool table, golf simulator, and projectors for games and UFC matches. While some patrons recommend certain items on the menu, such as poutine and burgers, others advise against the Donair and mention the steep prices. Overall, Monkey Tree seems to have potential as a neighborhood pub, but opinions on the food and service vary widely among customers.

It was amazing! The DJ was exceptional and had a great knack for selecting the perfect songs at just the right moments. Saturday nights are the highlight of the week, especially when DJ Godson is in charge of the tunes!
I visited the MT twice this month and while the atmosphere is great, I truly think I could make better food in a microwave. On both visits, the dishes were overcooked and dry, making me suspect we were being served reheated leftovers from the previous day. The wings, especially, were so tough that I feel like they could be used to drive nails into oak!
This is a local pub with a rustic wooden decor and a casual atmosphere. It features TV screens, making it a relaxed spot. The drinks are relatively inexpensive, which is the main draw for customers. However, the food is just mediocre. The beef dip was quite chewy and had a lot of gristle. The brisket wrap was lacking meat on one side, and when I mentioned it to the waitress, she brought me more but charged an additional $5, which was surprising! Although the Caesar salad was supposed to be included, we were charged for that as well. Overall, we’ll be looking for other places to eat but might stop by for drinks in the future.
I had lunch here, and while it's not a bad place, they leave the front door open, which lets in a swarm of mosquitoes. There are plenty of TVs, the food is quite good, and the prices are excellent. However, it’s not very comfortable with all the swatting and scratching from the bugs.
If you 're a tourist visiting Yellowknife I would skip this joint and stick to restaurants in downtown We drove to the other part of town where Walmart is to pick up some snacks and drinks. We spotted Sam 's down the street from Walmart and decided to try it for dinner. I looked up the hours on Google and Yelp which both said that the pub is closed by 2 pm. Weird, because there were a huge row of cars parked right outside of the pub so we decided to check it out anyways. We walked into the pub and stood at the top of the steps that descended down to the seating area and waited to be seated at a table. While we stood there trying to figure out where the hostess was the bartender caught our eyes and just gave us a long stare (or should I say glare). A waitress also caught our eyes but then decided to ignore us. As we continued to stand there for over a minute we were starting to pick up a weird and awkward vibe and decided that it was too uncomfortable to stay and have to deal with unwelcoming service. We decided it was best to drive back to downtown for dinner instead. As a tourist, sadly you may start noticing places that not very friendly to non-locals. We 've been visiting in Yellowknife for almost a week and that 's just something we 've picked up on. I don 't believe that tourism is one of Yellowknife 's main industries so they could probably care less, so to those establishments bye. Fortunately, there are more welcoming restaurants in town. Just a personal tip- if you as a visitor are planning to post a negative review about an establishment do it after you 've left Yellowknife, this is a very small town.
