Cathedral Cafe

Description

Nestled within the tranquil Cathedral gardens, this charming café offers a mixed experience for visitors. While some diners rave about the lovely ambiance, friendly staff, and ethically sourced food, others express frustration over inconsistent service and long wait times for orders. The coffee, served in paper cups, leaves much to be desired, yet highlights like homemade haggis and fresh soups shine through. Despite some criticisms regarding stale scones and worn-out furnishings, the café remains a popular pitstop for sweet treats and refreshments after exploring the nearby cathedral, making it a noteworthy, if imperfect, destination in Worcester.

On a visit to see the wonderful Christmas trees we called at the cafe where the staff were working under pressure. I ordered soup which was served lukewarm in a cardboard cup with a plastic teaspoon which seemed to be at odds with the ecological message of the tree display. The soup came with sliced bread and no butter. A dismal experience.

Despite 6 staff and a queue of only 5 orders ahead of us, the purchase of 4 ice-cream took over 15 mins. They could improve matters if all the food orders were sent out after queuing. One lady served a customer drinks and pasties and the rest of us were all looking bemused, how long it took.

My friend and I were visiting to see the Christmas tree display which was amazing, we went into the cafe for a snack and hot drink, we chose a fruit scone each with jam, sad to say the scones were stale, hard and inedible we had to throw them away, the queue to be served was long otherwise we would have taken them back, so that’s why I’ve left a review.

Just about passable. 1/ sit inside as it is much warmer than the outside cloisters. 2/ all the cushions are well worn and need replacing, the staff don't really know what they are doing, the service is a bit hit and miss, the prices are expensive to say the least. The toilets are ok. There must be better places to eat in Worcester as there cant be much worse places to eat. Seems to attract eccentrics like people who shout across the cafe to other diners and people who employ their phone on loud speaker thinking that this is acceptable for modern public interaction in britain.

The restaurant is charming, but the overpriced cappuccino made by a machine and served in paper cups was the worst I've ever had. I suggest investing in a quality coffee maker and some proper cups.
