I really wasn't expecting to find such a great restaurant out here in the "middle of nowhere." (Worb is a fairly small, industrial village about 20 minutes outside of Bern.) The restaurant is part of the Loewen hotel, a quaint and traditional Swiss inn.I ordered something called a "Drei gang surprise," meaning a three-course menu where you have no idea what's coming. After a small "amuse" that wasn't too impressive came an awesome broth soup accompanied with a bunch of strange mushrooms. I ate them all, and wished for more. Then came a meat dish, which the server explained was "basically Bambi." To be sure, it was the best venison I have ever had, and I have actually eaten fresh "Bambi" once before when I accidentally shot a "button buck" on my first hunting trip as a kid. (Aimed at the big one and missed. After a bit of crying, I ate the little guy.)The desert was pretty awesome too. Three kinds of "ise" -- plum, apple and vanilla --accompanied two fried apple donuts. I added two glasses of wine and a beer, and still got out the door for under CHF 90.I will TOTALLY be coming back to this place!
I've been addicted to this family restaurant for a while. I'm always stopping there when I go in front of it. Salad sauce is addictive! Fortunately, we can buy it to bring it home or offer it! All the dishes are good. some more expensive than others. but the traditional sausage-sauce with onions-frites is to fall. nothing to do with the dishes made from the ski resort canteens! How fried sausage can be a nice dish:-) meats come from the butchery of the same owners, it's too good. The desserts are hearty: courage to the one who embarks on the assault of the ice creams-chantilly-meringues! the decoration is always treated and there is a theme depending on the season/time of the year. The bread is fresh and, on Sunday, there is even the German well Swiss house braid, miam!
