Had a lovely lunch. Isabella was our waitress who was very knowledgeable and helpful.
I visited Chalk in Wokingham for my birthday and, unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience from start to finish. The service was the biggest let-down. Our main server came across as cold, abrupt and unsmiling, which immediately made us feel unwelcome. There was no introduction, no explanation of the menu or any specials, and throughout the evening we were served by around five different people, making the whole experience feel disjointed and impersonal. It felt more like being in a café than the premium dining experience the restaurant aims to offer. When I wanted to order the shrimp burger, I was told it wasn’t available because it “wasn’t set” on the evening menu, which seemed like a poor explanation. We also asked a question about the bread served with the pâté and were simply told, “I’m the barman,” rather than anyone offering to find out the answer. It summed up the lack of customer care we experienced throughout the evening. Although we mentioned it was my birthday when we arrived, there was no acknowledgement at all during the meal. I wasn’t expecting anything extravagant, but even a simple “Happy Birthday” or a small gesture would have been appreciated. Overall, the service style, attitude and energy of our main waiter left us feeling uncomfortable and eager to leave. Sadly, the experience didn’t live up to the restaurant’s reputation, and I wouldn’t return or recommend it based on this visit.
Suuuuch delicious food! Made better as we were able to sit outside. But this place is lovely. Only fault service needs to be faster! Food came out fairly quickly but staff were a little inattentive when we had finished and then with bringing to bill.
Came here for a meal with my family, and I was pleasantly surprised, our waiter was this young lad called Gabril, who had recommended me the duck breast, it was very great in taste and just what I needed for my tastebuds that day. I loved the decor and the interior and I will definitely be back soon. Thank you to our waiter for making our night with his kind and attentive services and the chefs for the amazing food.
This place is well presented and has a nice decor etc. I felt like a 2nd class citizen though, we were not welcomed warmly with my wife on a Valentines lunch. We were bruskly taken to our table with no 'niceties '. My wife was told bruskly that her preferred option was not available and we were tossed a shabby menu with the items crossed out that weren 't available. My wife felt pressure to choose another option on the spot, the guy gave us an impatient impression. Sorry but it 's just not nice and spoilt the mood. My second trip and not impressed with the service. The food is ... fine. I did note that he was happy joking with another couple, perhaps we didn 't look the part? Will not be going again.
