What Sam Rajan doesn't like about Adega:
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend the food and had a pretty middling experience at Adega. We went in the afternoon and enjoyed the capirinha that was recommended. After that, things went pretty south. We tried the fries and the cod cakes and they were decent when paired with the ketchup and hot sauce respectively. Next we ordered the seafood platter and found the clams, lobster to taste pretty fish-y. We also tried the octopus and thought it tasted rubbery and could use more flavor than just the olive oil provided.Talked up the wait staff and turns out it is a family restaurant. Service was friendly and we had an interesting chat. Overall, I don’t think I would recommend the food here, or I would at least try other items on the menu and just their drinks.
The food used to be much better. Today's felt very un-authentic and the service was painfully slow. Bacalau com natas was bland and made not with saltcod but fresh filets of fish. It resembled more of a fish chowder than bacalau com natas. Good flavor if you wanted a fish chowder but by no means was it bacalau. The carne de porco alentejana had TOO MUCH smoked paprika and the Portuguese potatoes were greasy and limp. Grilled shrimp was good but the Lapas were tough and chewy. I was so let down as this restaurant used to be top notch Portuguese in the area and today it was disappointing. The sangria however was delicious and the coffee was good. Vegetarian options: No vegetarian options other than side orders of veg and salad.
I will start with today and work back in time. Got there at 21:40 today, the kitchen was shut. According to the stated time, they should have been open until 22:00, first bad. Asked for a beer, an empty glass and a beer bottle was put in front of me, with no offer to poor the beer into the glass. Sum up, no food, poor bar service. Now, to go back in time. I ordered a fish dish, don't remember exactly what fish it was but when it came out it was gutted and that was it. It was deep fried with head, tail, skin fins, how disgusting. After they removed the undesirable parts of the fish, I lost my appetite. As an alternative, he gave me some meat, which was like eating boot leather. I was not charged for the meal.Another occasion, the bill. I paid a bill by credit card and got surcharges for the transaction. This is not permitted in Massachusetts. I need to say no more. Not often, I give a bad review, but I think this was necessary.
