The George And Dragon - Witney
The George And Dragon
Description
Nestled in Long Hanborough, The George and Dragon has garnered mixed reviews from diners. While the ambiance and portion sizes receive praise, inconsistencies in service and food quality are notable. Some diners enjoyed imaginative dishes like duck chili fries, while others expressed frustration over long waits and temperature issues with their meals. Friendly staff have been highlighted, but a lack of warmth in the environment detracted from experiences. Despite its potential as a cozy pub, some guests lamented overpricing and service shortcomings. Ultimately, the restaurant seems capable of delivering delightful meals but needs to address these critical areas for improvement.

Our search for a pub to eat near Blenheim Palace lead us here and we are so pleased it did! The service and food were fantastic! Three of our party chose the dirty burger and said it was the best burger ever! Being a veggie, I had stuff mushroom with a side of cheesey chips! Delicious! We would highly recommend a meal here!
A lovely old thatched pub a short walk from the station at Hanborough. I ate beef in a brioche bun with fried and salad, all cooked to perfection. The bar staff were friendly, chatty and on-point with attentive service throughout. It was a fresh but not chilly Octpber day so I sat outside in the spacious, well landscaped garden. There is also ample seating at the front of the pub and a separate indoor dining area. The pub us ideal for families with plenty of space for children to run around safely. I'd definitely come back with my wife but the pub also ideal for large groups and would be a perfect place for a Christmas or Bank Holiday meal. There is an Aunt Sally course for playing that traditional Oxfordshire game and also a sandpit for the kids. I arrived by train but there is also a car park with a number of spaces.
I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. I paid £19 for the pie of the day, but it had very little meat and the pastry was greasy and tasted like cardboard. It was served with a small portion of bland mashed cabbage and a few pieces of potato. I would not even feed this meal to my dog.
Enjoyed a wonderful meal with family and friends. This pub is full of character and charm with a cosy bar and a bright dining area. Everybody was delighted with their meals and the server was friendly and attentive. It’s a shame it’s not our local as we would certainly be regulars! We will look forward to visiting again soon.
