Maddens - Westport

Came here vacationing, never been to Ireland before. The food and atmosphere were comforting, reasonably priced and the service was wonderful. Would definitely come back again just for the Margherita chicken, french martini, or even the sticky toffee pudding!!

The food was good. I got salmon and it was a big portion and well cooked... the only flaw was the skin wasn't crispy at all. The loaded potato skins were more like a jacket potato but still, very tasty. I removed a couple of stars for the attitude of the staff. They didn't smile once, very inattentive and even when I said thanks or smiled at them, they just clearly didn't want to be there. I'd recommend if you just need food that is half decent but there are better places to spend your hard earned money.

I recently dined at Maddens for both dinner and breakfast, and my experience was a bit of a mixed bag. Dinner was excellent, with prompt and friendly service and delicious food. The soup and lamb shank were particularly impressive, deserving a 5-star review. However, breakfast was a different story. The orange juice seemed to be a cheap imitation, and the service was extremely slow. The scrambled eggs had a full yolk, which I had to separate out. Despite this, the scones were delicious. Overall, Maddens offers a mix of both good and not-so-good dishes, with breakfast potentially posing some challenges, especially for those on a tight schedule.

Down in Westport as usual for Uri's Bluegrass festival...arrived Friday evening..bags delivered into room at Linden Hall B&B...freshen up and down the streets of Westport to the gem that is the Clewbay/Madden's.... wonderful humourous service.....and the first bowl of chowder.....forget the regular bowl folks...go straight for the large.... Westport Bluegrass wouldn't be the same!!!! Thankyou to all staff here.....oh by the way...as my darling hubby says she's English you know...

Wonderful family run place. Clean and comfortable rooms. Great drinks at the bar. The staff are warm and friendly.. The restaurant has some of the best food ever. I highly recommend it.
