We had such a fabulous 50th birthday celebration with family and friends. We hired the bar area which was great for dancing and the adjoining open room. Lots of character and a great atmosphere with fairy lights and candles. The room led outside to a...lovely seating area which we enjoyed as well. Johnny the chef was very amenable. We went with the hog roast and jackfruit with amazing salads. The food was delicious.... View all feedback.
What Philip W doesn't like about The Anchor Inn, Hartfield:
Roast beef we were told was rare. I’ve had rare beef and prefer it that was but this was awful. Two of us had beef and it was inedible, chewy and impossible to even cut, I have never spat food into a napkin in a restaurant. We did mention this and were told “sorry about that. Won’t ever eat there again. View all feedback.

As a friend wrote “It was SUCH a fun night….lovely atmosphere, great food, great location.” A very memorable night. I would recommend it to anyone.
My wife and I had our wedding reception here in July 2021 and we couldn’t be happier with the service we got from all the staff. The food in particular was outstanding and all dietary requirements were catered for and food amounts were more than...ample. When food started to run out it was quickly replenished, as were drinks. The feedback from our guests around 60) was all extremely positive and it really is a lovely setting albeit aided by fantastic summer weather that day. Johnny is the chef and manager and his expertise in the kitchen is second to none whilst his partner Katie oversaw all the other arrangements for us in a very professional manner. We stayed in one of the rooms upstairs that evening and it was very comfortable and had a lovely cosy feel to it. The breakfast was also delicious and on the whole I can definitely recommend this pub as a venue for a wedding reception or any other function.
Lovely clean comfortable room with plenty of hot water for a bath or shower, plenty of complimentary bath products and tea and coffee. All the staff are very helpful and friendly and the food in the restaurant was first class. The Anchor...was perfect for the walk to Pooh Bridge and the little tea room shop Pooh Corner which was just down the road. The Anchor has lots of character with lots of old beams including in the bedrooms. Only thing I would say is if you like an early night you might want some ear plugs as the bedrooms are above the bar and it can be quite noisy until closing time, this didn't bother us as we never turn on, see you late anyway. It was perfectly located for our 2 night stay and for walking in and out of Ashdown Forest.
The Anchor was a fantastic place to hold my husband's party. The area we had with our own bar for the party was perfect. The team behind the bar, led by Kate looked after us so well. Kate worked really hard making sure everything ran...smoothly as possible and her team supported her in doing this. It was very atmospheric and a good time had by all. Jonnie Forbes produced canapés, an amazing curry feast, pudding and cheese for 60 people. It was absolutely delicious. Everyone has raved about the food. The canapés we had with arrival drinks were top notch all made in house. Highly recommended. All the staff worked hard to make it a memorable evening for us. A big thank you to Jonnie and his team.
Attended a party, the room looked great, staff attentive and efficient and the curry cooked for 60 was excellent. Great venue for a gathering.
