Description

The Tramway is a hidden gem serving fabulous seafood with a traditional pub exterior. The monkfish curry and baked cod are standout dishes. The service is top-notch, and the staff are courteous. While prices may be a bit high, the quality of the food justifies the cost. A great spot for seafood lovers looking for a unique dining experience.

We went to Mark G's at High Street after reading some excellent reviews online one of which even mentioned that Mark G's is not only great but it can very well be a reason to visit Lowestoft. After reading that it is a popular place and that it is often difficult to get a place without a prior reservation, we booked a table ahead. With all these built up, we were disappointed, to say the least. The ambience is most ordinary, the quality of the food is bad (the fish were probably not washed well before cooking), and the service is ordinary as it is in any restaurant. The restaurant was pretty empty and lacked the aesthetic vibe as shown in the pictures on its website and several other online platforms. We didn't experience anything that justifies the price we feel it is overpriced as neither the taste nor the ambience matches the price.

Absolutely lovely food and friendly staff I would definitely go back! The fish was amazing and one of us had steak which was the best steak I had had in a long time!

Plenty of parking around the back of the restaurant, and on the street. The food was absolutely excellent, if a little on the expensive side. The meal sizes were very generous a must for fish lovers, although if fish is not your thing there were other options. Thoroughly recommend.

The food at this restaurant is beautifully presented and tasty, made with fresh ingredients and served with excellent service in a relaxing atmosphere. I enjoyed a goat cheese salad, plaice fillet, and ginger pudding with ice cream, all accompanied by a pale rose wine.

From the outside, The Tramway looks like a traditional pub. When you get inside the bar area is preserved although quirky. Good choice of drinks. The star however is the fish. Absolutely fabulous! The monkfish curry (already mentioned in other reviews) is beyond delicious. The baked cod on a shrimp risotto likewise. Mèze starter exquisite. What a find!
