Very good food and creative cocktails in an interesting space. A particular standout for us was extraordinarily good gluten-free pizza. Really good crust that was actually bread-like, crisped on the edges, and not soggy or flat in the middle. Bravo! View all feedback.
What Mabelle Towne doesn't like about The Observatory:
Upon arriving at this establishment with my reservation, I was promptly shoved out of the way for the arrival of a foreign diplomat to the hotel. I was brusquely informed that the Observatory was now closed, and when I tried asking another question I was waved away and told to leave the premises. I found the entire experience quite unpleasant. If I had only received some form of prior notice of this situation I would... View all feedback.
Place was great but we went during the restaurant week and the menu wasn’t the same as served. They ran out of desserts and replaced them with average cake. Also the menu description didn’t match what we got. Also two entree options had pork of them which I felt limited our choices.
I made reservations for my boyfriends birthday dinner and from the moment we walked in the experience was less than special and full of chaos and disappointment. If you’re looking for a romantic speakeasy vibe, do not come here
Very noisy had to speak loudly to talk to my date. Food was ok service was mediocre. The waitress did her best.
I wanted to try something new, and The Alex was definitely the perfect choice. The drinks were great, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was cozy, and the service was amazing. I will definitely be returning!
Go for drinks but abstain from the food as it can be inedibly dry and visibly aged. Great selection of spirits, though, with a few thoughtful cocktails and ambiance unique to a DC speakeasy.
